TEXARKANA ARKANSAS TUESDAY EVENb’G. NOVEMBER 6 18! 1.
MVMCLOSED.
lev. Sam Jones Takes His
Departure.
THE LAST SERMON LISTENEI
TO BY 10.000 PEOPLE - 93 PER-
SONS JOIN THE CHURCH
-Good bye to
TEXARKANA.
Last night witnessed the closing
of the great Sam Jones revival in
the big tabernacle. For nine days
a noble battle for religion and right
and against sin and the devil has
been waged and Bros. Jones and
I ituart won the day.
As we stated yesterday only eter-
nity can tell the great amount of
good accomplished by the revival.
Sam Jones has won the good will
if not the love of almost everybody
here by his earnest labor for the
good of his “neighbor” his un-
adorned sincerity and boundless
live for poor fallen humanity. He
who abused him before hearing his
scathing words of rebuke and burn-
ing words of love now admire him
for the great work he is doing
through the power and influence of
the Holy Spirit. No preacher since
the days of the apostles has been
no successful in winning souls to
God
After the choir had sung a num-
ber of selections and a collection
had been taken for incidentals Bro.
Jones asked twenty men to join
him in giving $1 each to poor crip-
pled Mike Kelly who was in need
tbout forty responded when Mike
hobbled up and returned thanks to
the preacher and said he would
ever remember him and hoped to
finally meet him in heaven.
BRO. JONES’ LAST SERMON.
Text: Proverbs 1:24-26 --"Be-
cause I have called and ye refused
i have stretched out my hand and
no man regarded; I also will laugl
.it your calamity; I will mock when
our fear cometh"
It was Mr. Spurgeon who said.
“If we had but the ears to heai
and the eyes to see how the calls of
God would multiply about us everj
day.”
The sun as it rises toward the
meridian says: Mau my pathway
s upward and onward how is it
with your pathway in this world i»
t upward and onward? And whei
he sun st ands overhead it says
'Man I have reached the meridiai
of this life I now begin to descent
toward the Western hills;" and just
oefore it sinks out of sight it says
“Man will you go down to youi
grave in splendor like me or behim
clouds and darkness forever?"
The candle moth flits about th<
light and we push it away and sai
“poor foolish thing you will burn
yourself to death." It touches tin
light then drops and dies. Man
you are doing the very same thing

! God is calling us to nobler better
| things.
' Are you a school teacher? Every
time the children come to ask a
question of you Jesus Christ says:
'• “Come and learn of me I will teach
you things Plato never thought of
and Socrates knew nothing about.’
Are you a lawyer? Every time a
client sits by your side and says:
“Will you represent me in this
case?" God says: "Man have you
an advocate that will represent you
at the final bar of God?"
Are you a saloon keeper? God
says: “Man you have got to meet
this customer where there is no
counter between youand no money
1 passed."
I Are you a dry goods merchant?
i Everytime you measure off a yard
lof goods. God says: “Man lam
i measuring off your days to you and
the scissors of death will clip you
j away from the living bye and bye."
i Not only does God call us in all
these ways but he calls bv his bles-
' sed spirit that reproves the soul
that stirs up the 'immortal nature
of men. This divine spirit pervades
this town tonight. Men wonder—-
“why am I thus stirred?" It is the
i divine spirit of Grace moving upon
1 the conscience and hearts of the
people. I thank God for this divine
spirit. Bless God He is here to-
night; He is knocking at the door of
your heart and I pray you stay by
the conviction ’till it shall bringyou
into a better and nobler life. He
will bring life and peace and salva-
tion to you.
God .also calls us by His precious
word. There is a call on almost ev
ery page.
This precians book my mother
gave to me when I was a little boy.
She told me it had guided her feet
like a lamp and when she came to
die she pillowed her head upon its
precious promises and went home to
God.
He calls us by a living ministry.
Thank God for every minister going
over this country preaching the
Word of God. We can never know
what this country would have been
without preachers.
Lord Salisbury said: “Remove
the Salvation army from the city
of London and you must increas:
your police force four thousand.'
if that be true how much must thi
ministers of America stand for h
regulating conserving force upon
the children of men?
You can never value thesi
preachers too highly. They an
your friends and they will stay by
you. Rally about these preachers.
There is no conflict between the
real evangelists and the pastors of
this country. We simply go to help
them t<> gather the fruit of their
sowing and the harvest of their
planting.
I know the Lord is in earnest
about saving us poor men. He
comes closer still; he calls us by hi:
providences. I believe in the prov-
idences of God as much as I believe
in the existence” of God. He did
not create this world and roll it out
and leave it to chance. The very
hairs of my head are numbered and
not a sparrow falls to the ground
till God's own hand has signed it
death warrant.
God never let any man sink down
to hell till he had exhausted his In-
finite resources to save him If tin
preacher's words don’t move you
God will work on you by His provi
dences. I believe that God work
on humanity by his divine provi
deuces to stir them to nobler bet-
ter things. Whenever you repent
he will let up. I never knew of a
case where God defaulted on a fel
low yet. When God Is after you
my brother surrender! Surrend
erl!
God never came to your home to
touch a single loved one that He
did not come with a message of sal-
vation to you. By ills providence
lie will come close to you. I may
be a fool but I have come to this
point that 1 am afraid not to do
my duty. Not that I may not go
to heaven or may go to hell but I
am afraid of what might happen I i
this world. 1 may be a fool but 1
am a happy fool and getting on
gloriously well. I have been in some
of the tightest places that ever a
follow saw in this world but Lhave
not been in a tight place in twent
years and called on God that H
didn't come to me and do just wha
I asked Him to do. lam afraid n<
to do my duty. I know if I obi
God He will never go back on me.
j My brother I would not take your
chances. To say nothing of eterni-
ty I would not take your chances
In time. 1 need God to help me
and every time He says "Forward!"
i there is no mountain that will sto;
me no ocean that will disturb me.
- God ’’as come mighty close t<

erything dear to the heart of man
Don’t press the battle 1 Run u]
i the white flag in the presence o
: men and angels and say: “I wil
i surrender I will do right I”
i There is a momentum and forci
and power in this hour that yoi
have never seen before and yoi
I will be in eternity before you wil
ever see it again. The highest tidi
that ever struck this town is on i
tonight. Help every sinner to g<
with this tide tonight. If it recede:
and leaves you high and dry yot

the beach of damnation at last. .1
