Tbb cost ol making steel rails is
now down to sl6 a ton yet the steel
combination wants the railroads to
pay them $22 for these sl6 rails.
High tariffs art an indispensable
blessings to the combines. —[Ex.
CoNOBiBiMAN Moßba has in-
troduced a bill in the' House to es-
tablish a Court of the Patent Office.
The court is to have three judges
appointed by the President the
Chief Judge to receive $5000 per
year and the Associate Judges
$1500. The court is to have juris-
diction in interference cases upon
declaration thereof by the Com-
missioner of Patents and is to hear
and determine them. — Arkansas
Gazette.
Pbesidint Milleh of Hendrix
College through the columns of the
Arkansas Gazette vigorously op-
poses the policy of employing the
services of a chaplain in the two
houses of the General Assembly
out of the funds of tne State. He
thinks it is using the public funds in
the interest of denominational re-
sults. While he believes in the ef-
ficacy of prayer and would have
members pray before the casting
of every vote he is opposed to the
idea of taxing Jews Catholics and
others for protestant prayers.—
Arkansas Democrat.
Mr. Miller is right. There are
preachers and men who pray in
both houses of the General Assem-
bly and they could easily open the
daily sessions with prayer.
MEN WANTED.
The great want of this age is men.
Men Who are not for sale. Men
who are honest sound from center
to circumference true to the heart’s
core. Men who will condemn wrong
in friend or foe in themselves as
well as in others. Men whose con-
sieuces are as steady as the needle
to the pole. Men who will stand
for the right il the heavens totter
and the earth reels. Men who can
tell the truth and look the world
and the devil right in the eyes.
Men that neither flag nor flinch
Men who have the courage withnut
shouting to it. Men in whom the
courage of everlasting life runs still
deep and strong. Men too large
for sectarian bonds. Men who do
not cry nor cause their voices to be
heard on the streets but who will
not. be discouraged till judgement
be set in the earth. Men who know
their message and tell it. Men who
know their places and till them.
Meu who mind their own buaiicoo.
Men who will not. lie. Men who are
not too lazy to work nor too proud
to be poor. Men who ar cwllllng to
cat what they have earned and
wear what they have paid for.-

Although the railway fare in
Texas is but 3 cents a mile the law-
makers at Austin persist in the old
custom of allowing themselves 10
cents for every mile traveled going
to and returning from Austin.
This gives them a clear profit of 7
cents on every mile granting that
they pay fare. —[Texas Exchange.

Hood’s Sarsaparilla Makes Purs
Blood and Cures Malaria.
It Is with pleasure that wo call attention to
tie testimonial of Mr. A. M. Beck who Is well
known In Florida and to the travelling public
having for years been a railroad passenger con-
tootor mid later ticket agont at Jacksonville.
“0.1. Hood & Co. Lowell Mass.:
"Borno three or four years ago I wrote to yon
te reference to the good my boy had derived
from the use of Hood's Sarsaparilla and now
allow me to say that the same boy and hi*
bother became
Prostrated With Malaria
And Hood’s Sarsaparilla has again boon used
With satisfactory results. 1 do not believe you
can find a much better looking child for his ago
eight years than our boy. For this picture of
health his mother and also myself attribute It to
(he use of that most valuable remedy Hood’(
Sarsaparilla. Ills trouble before taking the
medicine was an affliction with bolls and a gen-
eral breaking out all over his body. Os course
from such suffering the child became weak and
a general prostration of the system was a natu-
ral result. We again resorted to Hood’s Sarsa-
parilla with wonderful success. The word grati-
tude but poorly oxpresset our feelings toward
Hood’s Sarsaparilla." A. M. Beck Belmore
