REPRESENTATIVE ELECTION. ;
The reporter made a round this
afternoon at 1 o’clock to see how
the election was coming off and
here is the summary up to that
hour:
At Ward 1 48 votes had been
cast and the supposition was that
Brooks had received 43 of these and
Meredith 5. The voting was tame
and only those who passed by the
box stopped to vote.
In Ward 2 it was some different.!
A few workers got together at this i
box and the way they were giving j
Meredith the third party disciple the;
“Scratch" would lead us< to believe;
all good democratsare not yet dead;
106 votes were cast at this box
and we were told that Brooks would
get one hundred of these.
In ward 3 the reporter found
Sam Hil)er in charge with five or;
six other gentlemen who were busi-
ly engaged in playing dominos
while Sain was reading the closing
chapters of Trilby. Twenty five bal-
lots had been deposited at this box;
and 20 of them were for Brooks. |
Ward 4 we did not visit as it is
rather too far out of the way to
walk when the game is so small.
This Ward will go for Brooks how-
ever 10 to I whatever the vote may
be as they are all democrats.
In Wiird 5 twenty votes had been
polled and the count would show
about an equal division between the
two.
Ward 6 had only nine votes polled'
and when the reporter asked in ills
meek and child like manner as to
who was ahead Brooks ot Meredith
lie was told that it was “agin the
law to tell." We believe the city
will Vote about 250 in the election
j that Brook will get 225 of these. If
he runs as well in the 'tipper end of
the country as he has here lie will
i)q our next representative by long
odds. .
The Excursion.
The excursion to Little river yes-
terday was not as heavily loaded as
it lias been on former piccaslon but
those that did go report a pleasant
trip. We learn the banks on the
opposite side of the river was crowd-
ed with people for the purpose of
seeing the Unit iron horse enter
Sevier county but they were disap-
pointed as the rails have not yet
been laid and the t rain did not even
run on the bridge. The t rack will
be laid thls week on the oilier side
ol the river and next Sunday those
Sevier county people should be (low*
jit the rlve'r arid tffet a gorid lobk at
the engine and curs and we think
General Manager Williams should
arrange a schedule to give them a
round trip to our city on $1 rates
and let them get afhlelnthe cars
for the first time.
