We learn that cars will be carried
across Sulphur river (over false
work) and the work of laying steel
on the twenty miles graded south
of the river will begin at once.
And so the good work goes on.
A young lady living in this city
asked a friend if she believed in the
new drug they had out which would
make the young lady love the man
who gave it to her. The lady re-
plied that she had never heard of
it and asked the name of this pat-
ent drug and was told by the young
lady questioner that she thought
they called it “hypnotism."

A State Line Avenue young lady
went into a drug store yesterday
to buy some toilet soap and the
young man who prided himself on
his glib tongue commenced to

While returning from the “Four
C’s” mill yesterday afternoon we
stopped to rest at the Texarkana
Ice Factory. It now turns out i
twenty-five tons of ice per day; also
manufactures large quantities of
carbonated drinks. With Mr. Lee
Estes we sampled some of the best
of these drinks and both enjoyed
the sampling. This spring the com-
pany has added a brand new latest
improved boiler besides making
other improvements. Friend Estes
conveyed us from the factory to
our office behind his fine “stepper”
a kind and gentle animal although
a thoroughbred. As our city editor
might remark Lee’s "best girl” is
certainly in luck as his “stepper”
seems never to tire.
Editor Texarrkanian:
Please allow me to correct a false
impression relative to securing the
Texarkana Brass Band for the K.
of 11. picnic July 4th. The commit-
tee on music asked the president of
the Texarkana Band what they
would play for on the 4th and the
answer after due submission to the
members of the band was $125.00
which was submitted at a meeting
of the general committee and it was
thought by the body as being an
exorbitant pric? thereupon the
committee offered the band $75.00
for that day which the band said
was less than they had been offered
away from home. The matter so
far as the K. of 11. Committee is
concerned dropped it here. This is
the naked truth typical of the con-
dition of the Texarkana Band but a
short time ago. No one need feel
serry as the committee will secure
good music for the occasion.
Respectfully
G. W. Garrett.
