SECOND ANNUAL.
GlirusanHißinuni Fair
GIVEN UNDER THE
AUSPICES OF THE
TEXARKANA FLORAL SOCIETY
Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday
NOVEMBER 19 20 AND 21. 1895.
LOCAL AND PERSONAL
Ihe Floral Fair is coming on
apace.
The churches were all well at
tended yesterday.
Did you get up in time to see the
big white frost this morning.
The rail roads are doing a full
passenger business in and out of
here.
Read every line in O'Dwyer &
Ahern’s ad. It will instruct yon on
prices.
Lingold-Turner Co. offer a few
rare plums for next week. See
their space.
Winter & Schott—the never dis-
tanced merchants sing a song of
low prices in this issue.
Owing to sickness of some of the
partiepants the Band Benefit Con-
cert is postponed to Friday night
Nov 15th.
Which will you have Brass band
or disband? If you want a brass
band in Texarkana don’t fail to at-
tend the concert Friday night.
Jim Faull came in from camp to-
day and supplied himself with a new
lot. of shells. He says he is
just slaying the green-heads on the
lakes.
We noticed in passing Judge B.
T. Estes’ place a great many chry-
santhemums in jardeniers potted
and ready for the Fair. They all
looked like prize winners-
Mr. M. C. Thompson is back in
his place at the Pacific Express of-
fice after spending a few weeks at
his old home in Canandaigua New
York. We welcome him back.
Bloomburg is right in it to stay.
We saw several piles of goods mark-
ed for this little station today in
front of some our hardware mer-
chants’ houses.
Mr. Louis Slimer's little daughter
Edith who was operated on for
locked bowels died on Saturday
and was buried here yesterday. Mr.
Slimer and his wife have the sympa-
thy of all.
We passed by W. 11. Pierce's
store today and found it was filled
with elegant ladies. We learned
afterwards that they were after
those bargains in cloaks. They are
selling them at a sacrifice. You
can buy a s(>.oo cape for $2.75 and a
ten-dollar one for $6.60. See the
change in advertisement today for
cut prices.
The Texas side has solved the mud
problem. A wagon load of shaving
chips placed on a crossing will make
a tip top crossing. Araausas should
try this dressing on some of the
muddiest crossings here. Shavings
cost only their hauling and will last
at least a month after being spread.
One wagon load at 60 cents will do
the job. (live us more crossings is
the cry all along the line.
We lost our rubbers while return-
ing from the show on Saturday
night on the hill leading up to Col.
Fouke’s residence. They are not
quite as small as the Cinderella
slipper or as large as the Trilby
just a happy medium between
the two We are not able to offer
a monetary reward and yet too
proud to ask their return if found.
We write this to let the finder know
to whom he is indebted lor a
dindy good pair of rubbers.

We have heard it said that the
reason the circus did not make a
parade over on the Texas side was
because they were told if they came
over they would be taxed SIOO and
a level peck measure of complimen-
tary tickets. We asked Major Es-
tes the tax assessor and collector
about this report and he said it was
all a story. Those people who had
taken stands over in Texas irom
the Benefield block down to even
State Line were sorely disappoint-
ed as the circus parade turned
from Clinton street to Broad and
only made a two block parade
while if they had went to the Ben-
efield hotel they would have given
the people on these several blocks
intervening between this house and
Vine street a chance to see the ele-
phants. We trust there is nothing
in the report and as far as Major
Estes is concerned we know he
would not tell us an untruth about
it. It has not been customary for
one State to charge a circus for
making these street parades just
because they happen to pitch their
tent in another State and we hope
the people will not tolerate any
such movement unless there is a law
for it and the people apprised of
the fact.
