REFUSES A CONGRESSIONAL JOB.
I Congressman Bailey of Texas
I who was nominated for*a re-elec-
| tion has issued an address to his
|! constituency declining to run again
i for the office giving as his reason
I that Bryan and he do not agree on
| measures of governmental import.
I I IT
I i He says:
; “To those who may think it incon-
> | sistent for me to refuse a nomina-
II tion to congress on account of my
I disagreement with Mr. Bryan and
I still advocate his election 1 desire
| to say that I support him for three
1 reasons. In the first place he was
| nominated by a convention of which
• I was a member and I would feel
bound in honor to support him. In
i the second place he was nominated
I by a Democratic convention and as
I a loyal Democrat I feel it my duty
| to abide by the action of my party;
1 and in the third place if neither of
my other reasons existed I should
; support him because I believe that
his election will be infinitely better
1 for the people than the election of
I Mr. McKinley."
; Mr. Bailey further says in his
; card of withdrawal:
“Mr. Bryan is not only one of the
I most brilliant men in this or any
other country but he is a man of
[ exalted character and is sincerely
■ devoted to the welfare of the mass-
es. But over and above all this his
selection will insure a wise settle-
ment of the coinage question
which must be settled before this
! country will ever enjoy another era
of anything like general prosperity.
[ If I had no party ties and felt no
■ party obligations as between Mr.
Bryan and Mr. McKinley I would
I unhesitatingly support Mr. Bryan
i with whom I cordially agree on
■ many questions as against Mr. Me
I Kinley with whom I do not agree
1 on any question and if my advice
i would influence any one who enter-
; tains.the same opinions that 1 do I
1 would impress upon him that in this
I contest it is his duty to contribute
I all he can to the success of the
I Democratic party.”
Mr. Bailey is a brilliant young man
' and has made a name in the na-
I tional congress and this step of his
is to be regretted for we need
i young blood in our councils and we
hope his Texas constituency will
not let him come down from his
congressional perch so easily.
The man with a weight on his leg
can’t hope to win in the race. A
man with a weight on his health
can’t expect to compete in lite and
business with those who are not
handicapped. If his brain is heavy
and his blood sluggish because of
constipation he will not succeed in
doing anything very well. Consti-
pation is" the cause of nine-tenths
of all sickness. Symptoms of it are
sallowness listlessness poor appe-
tite bad taste in the mouth dizzi-
ness biliousness and lassitude. Con-
stipation can be cured easily and
certainly by the use of Dr. Pierce’s
Pleasant Pellets. They are not at
all violent in their action yet they
are more certain than many medi-
cines which are so strong that they
put the system all out of order.
The great advantage of the Pleas-
ant Pellets is that they cure per-
manently.

Mrs. Rhodie Noah of this place
was taken in the night with cramp-
ing pains and the next day diar-
rhoea set in. She took half a bottle
of blackberry cordial but got no
relief. She then sent to me to see
if I had anything that would help
her. I sent her a bottle of Cham-
berlain’s Colic Cholera and Diar-
rhoea Remedy and the first dose re-
lieved her. Another of our neigh-
bors had been sick for about a week
and had tried different remedies for
diarrhoea but kept getting worse.
1 sent him this same remedy. Only
four doses of it were required to
cure him. He says he owes his re-
covery to this wonderful remedy.—
