PAY UP AND FILL UP.
They have a novel way of doing
business over in Kansas. A Kansas
blacksmith finding most of his
neighbors indebted to him and be-
ing pushed for money published
the following card in a local paper
In the town of which he was a resi-
dent:
“As I am obliged to meet the
payment of a note I am compelled
to call upon all of those who are in-
debted to me to help me out as
they can. I have decided to select
a day. I request your presence at
my shop to pay the amount herein
stated. You will receive a special
treat. Lunch and refreshments
will be served from 1 p. m. to6p. m.
in my basement and a very good
time is assured. Please present
this card when you call and show
the amount ot your account which
is — dollars and — cents.”
The saloons have found it profita-
ble to offer free lunches but we
fear that our blacksmith friend in
Kansas will not have the grand
rush he anticipates as “paying
up” is something novel to a Kansas
man.

A New Year's Gift Heralded.
The measureless popularity of
Hostetter’s Stomach Bitters has
been the growth of more than a
third of a century. As in the past
the coming new year will be ush-
ered in by the appearance of a
fresh almanac clearly setting forth
the nature uses and operations of
this medicine of world wide fame.
It is well worth perusal. Absolute
accuracy in the astronomical calcu-
lations and calendar will as before
be valuable characteristics while
the reading matter will include sta-
tistics humor and general informa-
tion accompanied by admirably ex-
ecuted illustrations. The almanac
is issued from the publishing de-
partment of the Hostetter Com-
pany at Pittsburg and will be
printed on their presses in English
German French Welsh Norwe-
gian Swedish Holland Bohemian
and Spanish. All druggists and
country dealers furnish it without

years and take pleasure in saying
that I consider it an infallible cure
tor diarrhoea and dysentery. 1 al-
ways recommend it and have fre-
quently administered It to my
guests in the hotel and in every

A STATE REFORMATORY.
Hon J. H. Amaker one of the
members of the lower house and a
prominent candidate for speaker
expressed the sentiments of the in-
telligence of the state when he ut-
tered the following:
"An appropriation by the legisla-
ture of an amount so small that
the people of the state would
scarcely feel it would establish a
‘State Reformatory and Industrial
School for Juvenile offenders’ that
would not only seperate this class
of criminals from the malign influ-
ences of the state prison associa-
tions but would restrain them from
evil courses and teach them useful
trades thus making them good cit-
izens and useful members of society.
Such an institution once establish-
ed could easily be made almost self-
sustaining. But whatever the cost
it ought not to be weighed against
the possible future of the boys of
our state.”—Ex.
“A Booming Town” matinee and
a performance at night will be giv-
en here on Christmas afternoon and
evening. The play was constructed
for fun alone and if you want to
laugh now is your time to secure
the chance by an attendance. See

up in cut glass bottles at W. A.
Robinson’s drug store. Just the
thing for a Christmas present.
CLEAN CHRISTMAS FRUIT CAKE.
Customers do not get the small-
est portion of their peck of dirt in
our Christmas Cake. It is as clean
as it is possible to make it and it is
just as good as it is clean only the
very best material being used in its
manufacture. All fruit is washed
by our own process. Particular
care is given to the baking. The
choicest butter is used in making
Christmas Cake just as it is in our
pastry. Orders have already been
received from many of the best
families in Texarkana. Many of
them have made their own Christ-
mas Cake heretofore but a sample
has convinced them that baking as
we do hundreds of pounds we can
bake better cake than they can
and sell it to them for less money
than they can possibly make it for.
It sells at 25 cents per pound and is
iced with almond icing.
11-30. John P. Klink.
The latest thing in the city are
those excellent hot drinks at the
Palace Drug Store; go there and
try a cup ot hot soda chocolate
coffee or beef tea. 12-16.
When most needed it is not un-
usual for your family physician to
be away from home. Such was the
experience of Mr. J. Y. Schenck ed-
itor of the Caddo Ind. Ter. Ban-
ner when his little girl two years
of age was threatened with a se-
vere attack of croup. He says:
‘‘My wife insisted that I go for the
doctor but as our family physician
was out of town I purchased a bot-
tle of Chamberlain’s Cough Reme-
dy which relieved her immediately.
I will not be without it in the fu-
ture. 25 and 50 cent bottles tor
