TERRIBLE HOLLOCAUST
Six Inmate of Buckner Orphan Home
Perish by Fire in Boys'
Building.
Friday night a fire destroyed the *
large building used by boys at the
Buckner Orphan Home Dallas
Texas. Fire occurred about !>
o’clock at night supposed to have
caught from a stove. Six boys per-
ished in the fire.
Dr. Buckner telephoned the Dal-
las News at 1:30 a. m. yesterday
the following particulars as to
those who perished and losses:
"The corrected list of the crema-
ted with their ages is as follows:
Bertie Britton aged 14 years; Mar-
vin and Milton Britton the twin
sons of the matron of the boys'
building aged it years; Carlos Jones
aged tl years; Eugene Black the
son of the matron of the nursery
department aged tl years; Willie
Richards aged it years. Parents
of children In jured will be wired If
their presence Is deemed necessary.
The boys' building is a total loss. It
cost $3500 and was uninsured.
There were sixty double beds In the
buildlug and all the beds and bed-
ding and stoves were destroyed.
Also all the summer and winter
clothing hats and caps and shoes
of the 121 boys.
SHERMAN FOR SECRETARY OF
STATE.
Washington Jan. 14. Senator
John Sherman who has accepted
the position of Secretary of State
In Mr. McKinley's cabinet left to-
night for Canton to have a confer-
ence with the President-elect. It
has been known for several days
that Mr. Slierman Intended to go to
Canton but the date of his depar-
ture was not definitely fixed. He
left tonight al 7:10 on the leiinsyl-
vanla road and will reach Canton
tomorrow.
Senator Sherman's departure has
been delayed on account of the ex-
tradition treaties In the Senate of
which has had charge. It Is un-
derstood that during Senator Bhur-
iiiiui'm visit to Ohio It will be defl"
iiltely dnlerintned when his resigna-
tion will liilm effect so that there
will Im no delay In the appointment
of his successor.
Illa resignation will be tendered
