What Admiral Sehley Thinki.
A New York World reporter had
a conversation with Admiral Schley
a few days ago jotting down what
the admiral had to say in regard to
what the war with Spain did for
this country and his opinion of our
navy. We give below part of the
interesting report:
“The war with Spain taught
three great lessons: First we
learned to know ourselves; second
Europe and all the world learned to
know us; third it completely united
the American people. It was worth
every life and every dollar it cost
“As to warships my impression
is that the heavier type is too heav
ily gunned. The armament should
be of smaller calabre and more
numerous. At fighting range give
me the eight and ten inch guns.
But the rapid fire six-inch gun is
the weapon—is a man’s gun!”—
Rear-Admiral Schley to a World
reporter.

Fifth avenue theatre New York
which was remarkably prosperous
