9:00 a.m. Mr. and Mrs. Robert
Placke, the Owner-Manager of
the store said, “Giddings’ new
store is the result of a com-
bined effort between Sears and
ourselves to offer better and
more complete service to our
catalog customers in the area.
We hope the people of Giddings
will consider us a part of the
community and will avail them-
selves of our new facilities.'
Besides souvenirs for all at-
tending the Grand Opening,
visitors may register for valu-
able gifts to be given away.
They will find on display many
of the more than 140,000 items
available through the Sears’
catalogs. These items include
appliances, tires and batteries,
plus many shopping aids.
Additional particulars con-
cerning the Grand Opening may
be found in a center spread
advertisement appearing in next
week’s issue of the Times and
News.
Robert and Sue, who have
been lifetime residents of Gid-
dings, said that orders for any
merchandise listed in the cur-
rent Sears’ catalogs may be
placed in person or by phone
from home. The orders are then
relayed to the Catalog Order
Plant in Dallas for filling and
the merchandise sent to the
store here or directlv to the
customer if desired. Orders
will be received in consolidated
shipments, thereby saving the
customer part of the shipping
cha rges.
The steady growth of Gid-
dings and surrounding area
prompted Mr. and Mrs. Placke
to open the new store. They
pointed out that this is a locally
owned and operated business.
