“Some of the merchandise to
be given away will be displayed
at various places on the Dyess
base," Waldrop said. E. F. Mulli-
kan. member of the chamber com-
mittee. has charge of arranging
the displays.
Waldrop also said that “a num-
ber of merchants have made spe-
cial purchases for the event." For
example, be said that one local
shoe store has. bought 800 extra
pairs of shoes at a special price
in order to offer them to the gen-
eral public st lower prices.
Window banners are being is-
sued to the 84 participating mer-
chants, Waldrop said, and - some
of the stores are planning special
employe sessions to instruct the
sales personnel on greeting pro-
cedures.
All military personnel will be
identified by small American flags
pinned to their clothing. The gen-
eral public, however, is entitled
to the many special values planned
by the participating merchants.
Waldrop said.

The grand jury indicted him on
the charge, and also indicted him
on a charge he forged a signature
card at the bank. An account was
onened at the bank in the name
Peggy Ann Stavast was indicted
on a charge of burglary and fel-
ony theft in connection with the
breakin at the home of E. A.
Connel on Aug. 18.
George Scott, ~20, and Melvin
Fox, 26, both of Rising Star, were
jointly indicted on burglary and

with the July 23 stripping of the

charge, was Jerrell Wayne New-
berry, age and address unknown,
who was not in police custody.
Other indictments included a
number of them for theft and
burglary.
Ed Hall, 32, of Clyde, was in-
dicted on a felony theft charge
filed in connection with four calves
taken from the barn of Jack
Cannon on Aug. 20, and in con-
nection with a stock saddle miss-
ing from Harold Hart's place on
Sept. 12. A 10-year-old youth im-
plicated in the charge is being
handled by juvenile authorities
Claude Milbauer, 28, and LeRoy
Steinman, 23. both of 310 E S.
11th St., were indicted jointly on
felony theft charges in connec-
tion with seven rolls of fence wire
owned by W. H. Blackburn Jr.,
which they are alleged to have
taken on Aug. 18.
DWI charge.
Fred Laurence Padgett, 50, cur-
rently in Callahan county jail,
was indicted on a second - offense
DWI charge.
No - billed on charges of receiv-
ing and concealing stolen property
were Bob Locknane. Mrs. Helen
Locknane, Peggy Stavast, and
Velma Wilson.
John F. Scott of Cross Plains
was no * billed on a charge of
receiving and concealing stolen
property
Eldon Gregg of Cross Plains
was no - billed on an assault to
murder charge brought against
him by Bryant Moore. Moore had
alleged that Gregg fired a shot
at his automobile on June 30.

Struck by Auto
Pearlie Mae Price, for her
5
year-old son, filed a $12,500 dam-
age suit against Manuel Herrera
in 42nd District Court. The suit
results from an auto-pedestrian
accident Aug. 24.
She alleges that her son, Rod-
ney. was struck by a car driven
by Herrera, as he was crossing
S. Treadaway Blvd. at S. 7th St.
and was knocked under the wheels
of an oncoming pickup truck.
The petition alleges that the
flooded.
Jailer Jake Wasson discovered
water was flow ing down the stair-
way. and coming from a stopped-
up basin in a fourth-floor cell.
Water was two inches deep on
the fourth floor.
A prisoner, Eric Person, 21, of
Columbia, Conn., admitted he had
caused the flooding.
Person, who was declared legal-
ly sane by a jury in 104th District
Court here on Oct. 11, awaits
trial on a robbery by assault
charge in connection with the beat-
ing of an elderly woman attendant
and taking $682 from the Lawn
Cash Grocery last July 18. •
