Loud, Vigorous Debate
At High School Forum
By BOB BRUCE
Reporter-News Staff Writer
A high school political forum
held Tuesday night to encourage
youthful interest in politics did
just that as an eight-man panel
and numerous excited members
of the audience cut loose on their
favorite topics.
Republican panelists contended
that Sen. John F Kennedy’s pro-
grams are socialistic, while their
Democratic conuterparts criticized
Vice President Nixon’s stand on
defense of the Quemoy-Matsu is-
lands.
The gavel of the moderator, Dr.
S. B. Thompson of McMurry Col-
lege. was brought into play sever-
al times in an effort to quell en-
thusiastic applause and keep the
debate going.
Prior to the discussion. Dr.
Thompson announced that al
questions regarding religion would
be held out of order.
Lending mature support to the
three young Democratic panelists
was Gus Vietas, a representative
from local Demo headquarters.
