At least, that’s the impression
the pouting German actress gives
in her latent fileker, "Desire,"
current at the Hollywood. Cast
with the lanky Gary Cooper, La
Dietrich comes down to earth to
give the screen a marvelous per-
formance as a member of a jewel-
theft ring.
It’s a picture which abounds
with gay episodes, but has its
heavier moments when Marlene
and Gary wander into the moon
light Spanish moonlight, too!
quite frequently.
Several shots are worth the
whole evening spent at Iha thea- 1
ter. There’s one where the ine-
vie-goer has the opportunity to
peek over Gary’s shoulder for a
close-up of the season’s No. 1 os-
culation. After that one, clinches
come about as frequently as |
those in a heavyweight title fight. |
Something new, and we’re all
for it, is the background used for |
the introduction and titles. You J
can't fool us, that’s Jean Harlow!
And for those who don’t go for |
such goings-on, there’s the $100,
000 Santa Anita Handicap in the
newsreel. Little old Top Row
really does strike out for the rail,
carrying Timo Supply on his hip,
but you can't detect so much
bumping in the stretch. Why don't
they run that stretch drive in
alow motion? H. R.
