The Man Nobody
Wants To Know!
Electric rate reductions, to
bring Fort Worth residential and
commercial charges in line with
those of other Texas cities were
sought by the city today from
Texas Electric Service Co.
Instructed by a unanimous vote
of City Council, Manager George
D. Fairtrace was to start negotia-
tions immediately with TESCo of-
ficials with an eye toward effect-
ing new schedules by Jan. 1.
Council authorised the step yes-
terday afternoon on recommenda-
tion of 8. R. Wright, city utilities
supervisor, who proposed:
1. A residential rate reduction |
from 5.5 cents in the lower brack-

"room count” charges, already
abolished in other cities.
3. An adjustment downward in
commercial bills by a new sched-
ule of flat rates and minimum
monthly bills. „ ,

Councilman William Monnig
hailed the supervisor’s report,

residential rate is very much in
order.” _
"Even more so than the com- |
mercial rate,” agreed Councilman
W. J. Hammond.
For the average Fort Worth
consumer of 52 kilowatt hours of
current per month, the Wright 1
proposal would lower a consumer’s
bill from $2.68 to $2.48, at net
charges.
Councilman W. T . Ladd, how-
ever, contended that a commer-
cial reduction was most-needed to
bring-local rates in line.
The supervisor’s report com-
pared present commercial light
rates on a one kilowatt demand
as follows:
Average Cost Per Kilowatt Hour
’ 60 kh.100 k h.200 kh ,400 kh
Fort Worth 5.50 5.5 5.5 5.5

Houston ... 4.8e 4.48 4.24 3.52
As a proposed rate for commer-
Hal consumers, Mr. Wright set up
the following schedule to be car-
ried out by one-year contract with
the individual consumer:

Mr. Fairtrace told Council that
he doubted whether rate reduc-
tions could be worked out before

company for three months over a
lower commercial rate.”
Mr. Monnig replied: “I’m more
Interested In the residential rate;
it affects a lot more people,"
