ted” night was observed Thursday
night by members of the Ector
Parent-Teacher association with a
large crowd present for the first
meeting of the fall erm. s
- Mrs. Glen Anderson, president,
welcomed the guests and invited
them to visit the newly decorated
library and science room.
The guest speaxer, C. N. Cochran,
superintendent of the schools, talk-
ed on “The Need of an Education
Today.” He was introduced by Mrs.
Glenn Dodson, program chairman.
Refreshments were served at the
conclusion of the meeting.
Mrs. Anderson announced a call-
ed meeting for unit members Nov.
Mrs. Tilley Visits
In New Mexico
LANNIUS (spl) — Mrs. H. C.
Tilley has gone to Roswell, N. M,
where she will visit her son, Carl
Ingram, and family.
Mr. and Mrs. Bob Bridges have
gone to Tennessee where he is em-
ployed. ■
Mrs. Nolan Brown is visiting her
sister in Lubbock this week.
HONEY GROVE (Spl.) —. Plans
were made for members of the
American Legion Auxiliary to go
to Bonham Oct. 23, to hold a game
party for the members of the Veter-
ans Domiciliary. They also voted to
contribute $20 as the Christmas
assessment for disabled veterans in
hospitals.
Delegates and alternates elected
to the 4th District convention in
Denison Nov. 3-4 were Mrs. James
from Greenville, was guest speaker
at the Honey Grove Garden club
Thursday when they met in the
Educational building at the Metho-
dist church.
Miss Tribble gave a variety of
demonstrations for making party
foods, TV snacks and party jewels.
She was assisted by Miss Marjorie
Saunders, also from Greenville.
Mrs. Allie Kelley presided during
the business meeting. An invitation
was extended the local club from
the Bonham Garden club to attend
a Flower Judging school in the
First Methodist

Layman’s Day
Layman’s Day will be observed
Sunday morning in the First Meth-
odist church. Guest speaker at the
10:50 o’clock service will be Dis-
tric Judge R. C. Vaughan from
Sherman.
Judge Vaughan will be introduc-
ed by T. E. Anderson. .

depicting a Thanksgiving motif was
arranged by Mrs. R. M McCleary,
Mrs. C. H. McCleary, and Mrs. Rob-
ert Pryon. They used a yellow
cloth and a cornucopia filled with
colorful fruits and flowers and yel-
low and chartreuse pottery.*
Guests for the day were Mrs.
Kenneth Rowton, Mrs. George
Carlock, Jr., Mrs. James Gant and
Mrs. John Black.

lotte, to Howard S. Bishop, son of

Tejas Delphians
To Meet Tuesday
Mrs. Charles Nunn will be hos-
tess to members of the Tejas Del-
phian club Tuesday at 2:30 p. m.,
in her home, north of the city. She
will also be leader of the program
and will discuss some of the his-
torical books written by Inglis
Fletcher on the early day history
of North Carolina.
Murray was hostess to members of
the Frances Kim circles of the
Woman’s Misisonary Union of the
Baptist church this week in her
home. She gave a devotional on the
“Great Commission,” reading scrip-
tures from the Book of Matthew
27:17-20. Mrs. C. L. Nelson review-
ed another chapter from the study
book, “Japan Advances.”
Mrs. W. E. White presided dur-
ing the business meeting when
members voted to change the meet-
ing hour back to 2 p. m. every
Tuesday. i Prayer was led by Mrs.
Hoy Newell.
New members in this circle in-
clude Mrs. Hoy Newell, Mrs. Free-
man Lambert, Mrs. Lorene Beasley
and Mrs. Luke Moore.

PARKER’S GROVE (Spl.) —
Mrs. Lesley Blanton was honoree
for a layette shower Thursday af-
ternoon when Mrs. C. C. Whitlock
entertained in her home.
The refreshment table was cen-
tered with a large white candle and
surrounded by an array of gifts.
Three cakes, iced in pink, blue and
white, topped with a miniature
stork completed the decorations.
Mrs. Leon Watson and Mrs. Bob-
bie Jones .assisted the hostess in
serving cake and punch.

During the business meeting,
Mrs. Tidwell presided, and mem-
bers voted to change the time of
meeting from Tuesday morning to
Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock.

Memorial To Be
Erected by Baptists
LEONARD (Spi.) — Mr .and Mrs.
L. Porter Johnson of Rankin,
former residents of Leonard, are
making plans to have the bell at
the Baptist church mounted on a
white brick tower on the church
yard. It will be dedicated as a
memorial to Mr. Johnson’s late
parents, Robert and Fannie Neale
Johnson.
The bell was used for many
years having been taken from the
belfry of the old church before the
new church was erected. Members
of the church recall hearing the bell
ring 54 years ago when the Baptist
church was built in Leonard.

zational meeting for the Junior
Auxiliary of the Baptist church
was held this week at the church.
Mrs. J. G. Duncan and Mrs. Charlie
Offord, co-sponsors, met with the
group and presented an outline of
the year’s work. Officers were
elected.
Mrs. Offord told a story about the
work of the G. A. in other coun-
tries.
