HOST FOR FENCING MEET
The Jewish Community
Center will be the host for a
fencing meet sponsored by the
Gulf Coast Division of the
Amateur Fencers League of
America on Sunday, November

Starting at 1 p.m. two events
will be held. Men and Women’s
FOil At the conclusion of the
Mens Foil epee (dueling sword)
competition will be featured.
Fencing is one of the most
individualistic competitive sports
on the scene today. Because it
doesn’t appeal to the team
instinct and it doesn’t worry
about crowd appeal fencers are
not as numerous as other
sportsman but perhaps they are
more dedicated. The sport is one
which can be started at an early
age and continued forever.
Therefore at fencing meets,
voungsters and oldsters will
mingle and cross blades.
Swordsmen from Houston,
Beaumont, Corpus Christi and
other cities are expected at the
JCC
The Physical Education
Department of the Houston
Jewish Center will be offering
fencing to its members during
the spring program. Take
advantage of this opportunity to
see what fencing is all about.
There is no fee for this activity.
Jerry Kalmin one of the
participants will be the
instructor in the spring fencing
class. Class will be held on
Monday evenings from
7:30-8:30 starting with the
spring program.
GOLDEN AGE
FRIENDSHIP CLUB
The Golden Age Friendship
Club will hold a regular meeting
on Sunday, Nov. 22 at 2 30 PM
at the Jewish Community Center
in Room 220. Featured on the
program will be vocalist Tami
Steinberg. Guests are most
welcome.
All GAFC members are
reminded that election of
officers will take place on
Sunday, November 29th.
Everyone should plan to attend.

EMANU EL SISTERHOOD
The Emanu El Sisterhood is
holding an Open Board Meeting
on November 25 at 10 a.m. in
Feld Hall.
Convention delegates will
participate in a "Show and Tell”
of all that went on at the
District 22 Biennial Convention
in Dallas. The informal review
stars the delegation, Mesdames
Davna Brook, Delores
Wilkenfeld, Rozelle Kahn,
Rowena Goldfaden, Ruth Lack,
Edna Leah Frosch, Zella
Silverman, Shirley Barish, Ruth
Axelrod, Edis Parkans, Steffi
Schlamme, and Shirley Schnoll,
who will tell of the convention
business interspersed with some
behind-the-scene antics, also.
Mrs Charles V. Hooks,
chairman of the day, invites all
to join Sisterhood for this
informal Board meeting and
gourmet brunch, and to honor
Mrs. J. H Wilkenfeld, new
District 22 president. Couvert is
$1.50. For reservations, call the

nursery will be available.

WORKSHOP
B’nai B’rith Women, District
No. 7, will conduct a
Membership Workshop for
Chapter and Council
Membership Cabinets on
November 24 at the Mercantile
Bank. The workshop will be held
from 9:30 A.M. to 2 30 P.M.
Membership techniques for the
Membership Campaign to be
held next January will be
outlined and all Cabinets are
urged to attend. Co-chairmen for
the Workshop are Mrs. Allan
Buck, Mrs. Aaron Dushkin and
Mrs. Sylvan Grossman.

ART EXHIBIT

Institute for Rehabilitation and

the Sabbath eve services at
Emanu El November 20, at 8:15

The service was written by
Rabbi Henry Cohen (whose
grandfather served the Galveston
synagogue for many years) who
is the spiritual leader of Beth
David Congregation in
Philadelphia.
This will be the second of a
series of creative services which
will be introduced by the
Creative Service sub-Committee
of the Ritual and Music
Committee of the congregation.
The community is cordially
invited to attend. A fellowship
hour will follow.
at 10:30 and the program at
11:00 a.m. will preach on: “A
Prayer For Every Hour.”
The Parent-Teen Service,
designed to promote closer ties
between family and synagogue,
