A Good Performance Last Night.
There was a good audience at the
opera house last night to witness
the performance of the Georgia
minstrels and no one was disap-
pointed. It was a genuine min-
strel entertainment. In the first
part all the gags were good and
were new. Tom Brown the come-
dian was very fine and was hear-
tily applauded. The Crescent City
Quartette captured the house and
were not permitted to retire un-
til encored four times. Billy Ker-
sands in his specialties convulsed
the audience and was forced to re-
turn three times before the audi-
ence was satisfied. Altogether it
was an excellent and enjoyable
performance. The troupe is great-
ly improved since its last appear-
ance here and on its return should
have a full house.—Fort Worth

GRAND OPERA HOUSE.
•‘Count Casper” Makes His First Ap-
pearance Here.
Charles T. Ellis made his first appear-
ance before a San \ ni on io audience at the
Grand last night. The audience was not
(urge only a moderate house greeting the
company Ellis has a wonderfully sweet
voice and pleasant manner buttlie play
is about as poor a one aseould be possibly
1 conceived for giving expression to these
I qualities. Plot there is literally none.
The scenery is charming but thecostum-
' ing at times was badly out of place. There
' is a healthy sentiment pervading the
piece but its action is slow. The impres-
sion gained from the whole is that Ellis is
capable of much better work than he gets
an opportunity to do in this play. His
presence is pleasing his manner uaturai
his singing sweet bis voice clear. There
is so little action in the piece that it is
impossible to judge of what the rest of
the company might do if occasion offer-
ed. "Count Casper” is repeated this after-
noon and this evening.
