COULDN’T HIT HARDY
While the Mud Cat* Took Hoff-
man's Measure for Nineteen.
The Missionaries couldn’t do
business with Mr. Hardy’s assort-
ment of curves yesterday and the
Bayou folks took the game with
ease. The Houston pitcher had the
locals at his mercy and the Mis-
sionaries were mowed down like
grass. Hoffman delivered for San
Antonio and the visitors met him
for nineteen safe hits with a total
of twenty-six bases. Only five hits
were made off Hardy and he struck
out eight men. San Antonio
also made some costly errors but
they were difficult chances. Al-
though the Missionaries were de-
feated the score being 14 to 2
everybody was pleased the way our
boys play ball and after the game
several prominent members of the
legal fraternity came up to Man-
ager Garson and complimented
him for bringing a good team to
this city.
DIAMOND DOTS.
Galveston today.
The games arc now called at 4:30
insted of 4 o’clock.
Between 500 and 600 people saw
the Mud Cats ’eat up the Mission-
aries.
There were three balls hit to
Watkins yesterday which he
should have smothered but no er-
ror could be charged as he did not
get his hands on them. They had
whiskers all right enough.
“Cy” Mulkey pitches today and
it is San Antonio’s time to win.
Krehmeyer fattened his batting
average here in the three games
he made twelve hits Including
three home runs out of fifteen
times at bat giving him a batting
average in these games of 800.
The following are the ! batting
averages of the local players in the
series with Houston: Lemmon.
100: Cox 400: H ughes 375; Cham-
berlain 333; Mulkey 300; Van
Dresser 294; Sherry 294; Abbott
250; Watkins 200; Hoffman 200.
Abbott’s great catch and wonder-
ful throw in right field brought
down the house.
The way Van Dresser geta around
at short shows that he is in the
game and goes for everything.
" Austin has traded First Baseman
St. Clair for Pitcher Eddie Feehan
of Galveston. Another bad move
for Austin.
Garson Is working the wires for
another pitcher.
The following are the results of
Texas-Southern league games
played yesterday: At Austin—
Austin 7 Galveston 4; at Fort
Worth —Fort Worth 7 Shreveport
3; at Sherman —Dallas 14 Sher-
man 6.
This is “Military Day” at the
ball park. Manager Garson has
invited the officers ladies and sol-
diers of Fort Sam Houston to wit-
ness the opening with Galveston
as his guests.
Washington defeated Cleveland
yesterday by 7 to 3.
The Rooters held a meeting last
night and imposed a fine of $lO upon
Chief Shouter Harry for insub-
ordination.

Home Not Suffrage Discussed by
Women.
St. Paul Minn. June 7.—Some
women of the northwest revolted
at the time given by women to the
study of masculine duties such as
suffrage and want to see the
women discuss home duties a while.
So they organized a summer term
for farmers’ wives and daughters
where instruction is given in cook-
ing dairying sewing etc. The
term will close today at St. Antho-
ny. There has been a large attend-
ance. Cooking included lectures on
the chemical changes in food and
the preservation of fruits and
meats. Dairying and sewing were
also treated exhaustively. The
term began April 30. it is likely
that the idea of holding such in-
stitutes will spread throughout the
country.
