THURSDAY DECEMBER 5 ’95
lowa has undertaken the canvas
for the nomination of Senator
Allison in earnest. The state re-
publican committee have moved
in the premises after long months
soent in securing the consent of
3lr. Allison to do so and from now
on his bureau will be active. Its
headquarters will be at Des Moines
lowa but the hindquarters at
Washington .will not be neglected.
Allison will not only have the
united and enthutiastic support
of his own state but of many of
the western states as well. The
campaign managers will make all
the capital possible out of the call
for a western man.
President Cleveland’s message is
nothing that should excite sur-
prise in any well informed mind.
It is precisely like himself. It
has nothing suggestive in It out-
side of his financial scheme which
is certain not to meet with favor.
It shows that he has learned noth-
ing from the failure of his policy
and his party to command the
support of the country and that
the same old blind confidence in his
exploded free trade theories char-
acterizes him now that were man
ifest a decade ago.
The senate resolutions in behalf
of Cuban recognition do not tally
with the declarations of the mes-
sage but then this is not to be
wondered at. Cleveland has fewer
men who agree with him in policy
aid more voters who will vote for
him despite this disagreementthan
any other man who ever occupied
his present position. He is in no
sense a leader but he has the luck
of inspiring people with an idea of
his honesty when in fact he is only
dull and not intentionally dishon-
est.
The citizens of this city cannot
take any too great interest in that
Bowen Island market and park
scheme for their own interest and
the future good of the city. That
spot should belong to San Antonio
and in time will be the greatest
pleasure resort of town. It is cen-
tral has great natural beauty can
be made to yield revenue enough
to pay for itself and its ‘proper
maintainance and is in every way
the most elegible site for the pur-
poses designated of anything in
Bight.
The Houston Post congratulates
itself that it celebrated its Thanks-
giving before it had to tackle the
presidential message. The Post is
posted as to the tiresomeness of
Grover’s messages.
If there is an act of Mr. Glen S
land’s administration that he does
not fight for and defend despite
the manner in which it has been
repudiated by the great body of
the people then there is nothing
in his message that gives the faint-
-st echo of the fact. His self-
ipproval borders on the marvel-
lous.
The municipal elections in Mas-
sachusetts do not afford any re«-
a inable prospect of the people so
far forgetting fhe decencies of gov-
ernment as to commit affairs to
s ecret political societies the foun-
dation atone of whose politics is
hostility to certain nationalities
and religions.
Iron masters in this country re-
port the conditions satisfactory
and that the price of iron will not
be raised. How could they do dif-
ferently when Great Britain is
shipping in rails to undersell
them the low duty favoring the
foreign manufacturer. Necessity
compelis acquiescence sometimes.
It is a pleasure to note that the
people of this city have caught on
to the poultry show and are’ liber-
ally patronizing it with their pres-
ence. It is a good thing to take in.
It costs less than a ticket to a
fourth rate show and holds over it
any daj’ in the week.
The light agamstCrowley in the
contest that is being made for his
seat as the representative from
the Galveston district is being
largely aided from Galveston and
by democrats. The fact is that
Crowley was elected but he is a
bitter pill for Galveston to swallow
being nominated by the bum ele-
ment of the convention through
the efforts of the candidates who
could not secure the nomination
for themselves. Now that he is
elected these same men are trying
to unseat him both for personal
and political reasons. Personal be-
cause they envy him his place;
political because they know that
his co urse in congress will not re-
flect any credit upon the decency
of his district.
The poultry show now attract-
ing the attention and attendance
of San Antonio is one of the finest
aggregations of poultry ever seen
west of the Mississippi. It is
superior to the exhibits at Nash-
ville Tennessee and of Louisville
as well and these were two of the
best ever held in the south. It is
encouraging to note that the ex-
cellence of the coops is appreciated
by our people who are really tak-
ing an interest in the magnificent
collection. There is not a family
in the city that would not be am*
ply repaid for the small amount of
money and the time expended in
taking in the poultry show. The
intelligent attendants will give
you all the information that you
desire and as the exhibit is central
and the room comfortable there is
no good reason why the children
in their early teens as well as
those of larger growth should not
take it in. It will prove a very
instructive object lesson and en-
large the interest that the children
take in animate life.
Durrant is likely to faro the

ter Would it not be poetic justice
for these latter to be given the job
of piling up the fuel for the ever-
lasting burning that some believe
await the wicked?
United States minister to the
court of St. lames is developing a
power of compliment and approval
for the acts of the British govern-
ment in its controverties with the
government which he misrepre-
sents that should pave the way
for his speedy recall but that is
past praying for at present.
Blackburn is not so certain of
succeeding himself in the senate as
Breckinridge seems to be of recov-
ering his seat in the house. Even
the Bs of Kentucky find congres-
sional honey hard to make.
The attempt to reach the Jockey
club grounds this week has too of-
ten been the pursuit of transporta-
tion under difficulties. There is
evidently a screw loose somewhere.
MUNYON
SUBMITS SOME THOUGHTS FOR
CONSIDERATION.
PEBTINENT PARAGRAPHS FOR
THINKING PEOPLE.
It is strictly within the bounds
of sound logic to aver that the
fruitofatree determines its char-
acter.
“A good tree bringeth forth good
fruit.” Men do not gather grapes
of thorns nor figs of thistles; good
does not come from au evil source.
i Results demonstrate the truth;
।
। comparison proves superiority.
Superiority over all other
methods ways means of applica-
tions is the claim made for Mun-
yon’s Pellets.
Have they not proven them-
selves?
Thousands have been cured by
their use when other means have
failed; the sale of them has ex-
ceeded the most sanguine expecta-
tions and is still increasing; more
of them have been sold than of any
other medicine ever placed on the
market in the same epace of time.
The druggists say so; they are
placed in a position to know. Does
this not prove their worth—their
efficacy?
The druggists order them be-
cause the people demand them.
The people buy them because they
want them. They recognize the cur-
ative properties of these wonderful
remedies. If Munyon’s cures did
not do their work the public would
not buy them the druggist would
not sell them. Is not thia true?
All druggists sell Munyou’s cures.
Nearly 11000 bottles have beeu
sold in three weeks.

More than half tbe victims of consump-
tion do not know they have it. Here is a list
of symptoms by which consumption can
certainly be detected: —
Cougb one or two slight efforts on
rising occurring during the day and fre-
quently during the night.
Short breathing after exertion.
Tightness of tbe chest.
Quick pulse especially noticeable in the
evening and after a full meal.
Chilliness in the evening followed by
5 Slight fever.
' Perspiration toward morning and
“Pale face and languid in the morning.
Loss of vitality.
. If you have these symptoms or any of
them do not delay. There are many ।
preparations which claim to be cures but
Dr. Hckcr's €ngli«b Remedy for Consumption
has the highest endorsements and has
stood the test of years. It will arrest con-
sumption in its earlier stages and drive
away the symptoms named. It is manu-
factured by the Acker Medicine Co. 16
