Health Officer Tabor is advised by
different railroads that they have de-
rided to comply with the rules recent-
ly promulgated providing for the dis-
infection of passenger coaches. These
rules arc effective April 1.
Sunset Lunch Stand Fire.
The lunch stand at Spofford Junc-
tion adjoining the Sunset depot at that
place was-completely destroyed by fire
yesterday morning at 2 o’clock. The
loss will amount to 1400 which is ful-
ly covered by insurance. The blaze
originated from a lamp overturning.
To Monterey Mexico.
Major John C. Lewis trading pas-
senger agent of the Iron Mountain ac-
companied by his wife and Miss An-
nie Townsend daughter of the genor-
al pi*enger agent of that road passed
through the city yesterday en route
to-Monterey. Mexico where thegiarty
will spend several days.

Marl Dunn Captured and He Is to Be
Hanged Tomorrow.

Dunn who was to be hanged tomor-
row and who escaped jail several
dgys ago was captured today by the
sheriff.
Dunn is from pneumonia
and wgs iu such a weak condition that
he made no further attempts io elude
the officers.
He is in a critical condition and the
disease may cheat the gallows of a
victim.

contribute 110.000 toward the Japanese
war fund being collected In this coun-

ciety) a branch of which is being or-
ganized here. According to E. D Hash
moto. the organizer similar assess-
nents have lieen made on the Japan-
»se of Nevada. Wyoming Montana and
Colorado. Letera it is said have been
written leading Japanese of every big
city in the country and every state
vlll have an organization for Fukugi-
kika to collect funds for the home
country in its struggle with Russia.
Mr. Hashimoto says that 1280.000 al-
ready has been raised in San Fran-
cisco. and that large sums are coming
from Washington and British Colom
bia.

M Souvem. proprietor of the Novoe
Vremya have ben deceived in audience
by the Czar says a Herald dispatch
from St. Petersburg. The sovereign
shook hands with everyone. He said
he recognized the great importance of
the press which had well represented
the public sentiment for which he was
grateful.
“I beg you in the future to write
the truth and nothing but the truth"
be said. “I am grateful to you for
baving started a patriotic fund for
warships. It Is an excellent idea.”
The fund is said to have reached
fifteen millions of roubles.

Chinese to insist on the departure of
the Russian gun boat Mandjur from
this harbor says a dispatch to the

Japs Push Seoul Railway.
New )ork. March 10. —Japanese
military engineers with 8000 of the
pioneer corps have commenced active
work on the Seoul-Wiju railroad ca-

Seoul Materials now are en route
from Japan. A large number of local
laborers will be employed and every
effort win be made to complete the
work this year.

Colonel S. K. Ward Issues Orders This
Morning Detailing the Twenty-sixth
Infantry Band Troop of Cavalry and
Gun Caisson to Escort Remains.
Colonel S. K. Ward. First cavalry
commamiiug Fort Sam Houston issued
an order this morniug detaillug the
Twenty-sixth infantry band one troop
of cavalry and a gun caisson of the
artillery to attend the funeral of the
late General Eugene Hernandez Sat
urday afternoon at 4 o’clock. The
troops to officiate will be attired in
regular dress uniform.
The band w ill come to the late home
of the corps commander at 323 Sole-
dad street in a chartered car. At the
late home the troops and state militia
and others will be lined up as follows:
Twenty-sixth infantry band troop of
cavalry gun caisson of artillery bear-
ing the casket containing the remains
of the dead commander San Antonio
Guard Zouaves in command of Cap-
tain Robert Schmcrbeck Luther It
Hare command of Spanish war veter-
ans Improved Order of Red Men and
private carriages.
After the service by Rev. Dean Rich-
ardson at tho home the procession
will move as follow-s: South on Solj-
dad to Commerce street and east on
that street to city cemetery No. 4
where interment will take place.
At a meeting of the San Antonio
Zouaves held Tuesday night Captain
Schmcrbeck instructed his men to turn
oiit on the day of the funeral as a mark
of respect to their former commander
and that all officers and members
should be dressed in the regular Zou-
ave uniform with a mourning badge of
crepe on the right arm. This organi-
zation which was founded by deceased
will be given the position of guard of
honor and the regimental flag which
is the property of the company and
had the honor of flying from the mast
of the sunken battleship Maine in Ha-
vana harbor and Moro castle at Ha-
vana. will be wrapped around the cas-
ket of the dead officer. The com-
mander of the Zouaves will also fur-
nish the firiag squad at the grave and
a bugler to blow taps as a fitting
close to soldier's earthly career. Sta-
tioned on side of the gun caisson will
be the six honorary and six active
pall bearers who will walk from the
late residence to the cemetery.
At the grave the Rev. Dean Richard-
son will deliver a short oration on
the life of deceased when the firing
squad will fire three volleys. The
bugler will then announce the close of
the ceremonies by blowing taps.

It is therefore ordered that all

draped in mourning and that the mem-
bers wear the usual badge of mourn-
ing for a period of thirty days.

mains of the dead officer will reach

Samuel L. Watson aged 73 years
died Tuesday night at his apartments
on St. Mary’s street. Deceased had
lived in the city about 12 years. He
was known in literary circles as a
write!- of fine ability and was th» au-
thor of the poem "The Alamo” which
hung upon the walls of the old fort-
ress and attracted the attention of
thousands of visitors. Deoeasod came
to this city from Pekin. 111. He is sur-
vived by his wife one son and a daugh-
ter who live at the family homo in
Pekin. Funeral takes place this even-
ing at 4:30 from Sloan and Hagy's
parlors. Interment in cemetery No. 4.

home on Austin street. Deceased had

J. H. Branner aged 40 years died
at Dr. Blondin's residence on Garden
street yesterday evening. The de-
ceased recently camo to this city from
Clarksville. Tenn. to which place the

ALLEGED BOGUS SOAP
PEDDLERS ARE FINED.
Late yesterday ’ evening Mounted
Patrolman Prank Brown arrested two
foot peddlefd for plying their voca-
tions without license. The parties
were Joseph Daigneanlt of San Fran-
clsco and Valentine Dngosh of this
city. The attention of the officials
were called to the-parties by Aiderman
Richter to whom Mr A- Behnsch of the
firm of DfetNch A Co. had communi-
cated the fact that the peddlers were
violating the occupation tax law. DSlg-
nanlt has been gathering In sheckels
galore selling his'"only and original”
brands of soap. The soap It is claimed
by those who purchased Is utterly
worthless —a fraud of the first water
with a whole tot of water-tn'the soap.
Charges were preferred against Daig-
nault in the Recorder’s court and in
Justice Adams court. Dalgnault ap-
parently “had money to burn” for this
morning he appeared before Justice
Adams and entered pleas of guilty
with a promise to get ont of town at
once. He came down with >46.15 to
Adams: 17.50 to Collector Meerschcldt
and $2O to the recorder arid then had
a good little "role" left. The soap
business in of Daignalth ap-
pears to have been a success.

bled here today to name eight dele-
gatqe to the national convention at St.

America covering raw silk statistics
for tho season snows that dutiable silk
imports in the customs districts ’of
New York Philadelphia Boston. Hart-

months of 190 S had an Invoice value
it $8430000 as compared with $7935.-
450 In the corresponding period of the
'year before. Of the total $1872564
was the valuation of piece good pay-
