Valley Ranch Baptist Church to Expand
CHURCH MEMOS
The first time Travis and
Peggy Fergurson decided to visit
Valley Ranch Baptist Church
they had to resort to the Yellow
Pages for help in pinpointing its
location. Tucked behind a shop-
ping center just off the intersec-
tion of MacArthur Boulevard
and Belt Line Road, the 18,000-
square-foot building didn’t ex-
actly stand out along the corri-
dor of stores and other busi-
nesses in that northeast corner
of Valley Ranch.
Once they reached their
destination that Sunday in 2001,
however, the Fergursons say
they were particularly impressed
by the warmth and friendliness
of the congregation.
“We liked the way people
want to get to know you, how
they want to share in your life
and pray for your concerns,” said
Fergurson, who, along with his

Speak to Alliance
The Christian Business Al-
liance will host Karen Stevens,
a human resource consultant, at
its August 8 meeting. Stevens
will discuss the use of assess-
ments in managing employees.
She will review the use of dif-
ferent types of assessments in
selection, retention and perfor-
mance improvement, and will
share the importance of having
the right people in the right
places, as well as the positive
impact it has on business results.
The association meets ev-
ery Friday in the library of First
United Methodist Church, 420 S.
Heartz, at 8:30 a.m.
The alliance exists to pro-
vide networking opportunities
and support to Christians in busi-
ness. For more information, call

wife, have been members of
Valley Ranch Baptist Church
(VRBC) for 2 1/2 years. “For
us, that just made it more real.”
Today a cross rises 196 feet
toward the North Dallas skyline
at 1501 East Belt Line Road, a
beacon much more visible, yet
just as welcoming, to guests and
members alike, say members.
The new cross is part of a re-
construction project that will add
43,000-square feet to the exist-
ing location, expanding the
church to more than three times
its current size.
A sanctuary with pew space
for 900, eight adult Bible Study
classrooms and the church of-
fices will be housed in the build-
ing addition that is scheduled for
completion in September. A
Cathedral glass window, a rose
shape that measures 12 feet in
diameter and is comprised of 12
“petals” depicting scenes from
the life of Christ, also will illumi-
nate the way for churchgoers.
Increased attendance and,
as a result, cramped quarters
have compelled the need for
more space and additional wor-
ship services at the 16-year-old
church. Valley Ranch Baptist

vices in its existing 225-seat
worship center: 9:00 and 10:30
a.m. and 6:15 p.m. Many Sun-
days, additional chairs have to
brought in to accommodate wor-
shippers. When building expan-
sion is complete, the church will
eliminate the evening service and
continue its morning schedule.
Dr. Larry Parsley, senior
pastor since 1999, cites “grow-
ing pains” and a vital ministry
opportunity as the driving forces
behind the membership’s deci-
sion to expand three years ago.
“We have for some time
outgrown our current facility,
which has necessitated in-
creased worship services and
classes. So we believe that this
new addition will keep us from
feeling like we’re doing church
in a phone booth,” said Parsley.
“More significantly we be-
lieve that our church has a stra-
tegic opportunity to reach people
in Valley ranch and Coppell who,
for whatever reason, have not
found a church home. It’s our
hope that an enlarged church
structure will give greater visibil-
ity to the significant things God
is doing at our church.”
