Scott Orr is Kiwanis Club Guest Speaker
Scott Orr, executive director
of Christian Works for Children,
spoke to the Coppell Kiwanis
Club Thursday, January 13. Orr
joined the Christian Works for
Children in April 2003. He in-
troduced the three programs of
the organization — Adoption
Works, Counseling Works and
Grief Works — to the club and
provided details of the various
functions of each program.
Adoption Works provides a
full range of adoption services
with focus on the well-being of
the child. Counseling Works
provides family and individual
therapy in a Christian environ-
ment and focuses on providing
skills to prevent family break-
down and failure; Grief Works
is for children ages 5 to 18 who
experience the death of someone
close to them. The focus of the
program is to provide support
during the grieving process by
listening in a safe, loving envi-
ronment.
The Highlands is One of First Prep Schools
in Area to Attend Model United Nations
The Highlands School Model
United Nations is composed of
approximately 40 students and
participates in two local confer-
ences — the Global United Na-
tions, which is a middle school
conference held in Texas, and the
North Texas Model United Na-
tions, which involves itself in
competitive conferences in the
northeast part of the United
States.
In the past, The Highlands
School has participated in the
Harvard Model United Nations
and the North American Invita-
tional Model United Nations,
sponsored by Georgetown Uni-
versity. This year the school is
participating in the Columbia
Model United Nations and the
Ivy League Model United Na-
tions, sponsored by the Univer-
