A few good kids wanted in La Coste
Julie Dunnavant
Staff Writer
LA COSTE- The police chief is looking for a few good kids
wanting to give something back to their home town.
Chief Roland Alfaro is asking any child, 10-14 years old, to
donate a few hours of their time one Saturday a month to help
clean up the city.
All children who participate must have parental approval.
Alfaro said trash lining city streets is a nuisance and makes
the city unattractive.
“You don’t notice it as much when you’re driving, but I was
out walking and it was everywhere,” Alfaro said. “It’s time to do
something because this doesn’t look good. We have a lot of peo-
ple travel through our town and I don’t want them to think of La
Coste as a dirty city.”
Alfaro hopes to start the program this month.
His plan is to divide La Coste into four quadrants and help
the kids as they pick up trash.
“We don’t want them on the street by themselves,” he said.
While he doesn’t plan on picking up trash out of residents’
yards, elderly who need the help will get a visit.
“I think we’ll get a good turnout on this,” Alfaro said.
If the response is as much as he expects, the chief said he
might throw a barbecue to celebrate a job well done.
Anyone interested in joining the trash pickup can call the
police department.

Action youth group. The group has adopted two miles of the
road between Lytle and La Coste, making it trash free four times
a year. (Photo by Julie Dunnavant)
