Too soon to say if car
dealership coming to town
Shoulder expansion
planned for airport road
Adelina Gonzales
Staff Writer
In an effort to make the airport road more accessible to
visitors to the airport and adjacent Medina Valley Youth
Baseball events, the city agreed to spend $1,500 to widen
the road.
“If you go to the airport road or go to the baseball field a lot,
it’s aggravating,” Alderman Leon F. Tschirhart said.
The city plans to add four-foot shoulders to the existing
narrow roadway. This will allow cars to easily pass each other,
and to park alongside the shoulder during baseball games.
Director of Public Works Bruce Alexander estimated the
cost at $1,500 to $2,000.
Alderman Jerald Foxworthy asked Alexander if he could use
some of the old runway base material to save cost.
Alexander estimated it would take about 10 loads of crushed
limestone, but Tschirhart didn’t think there was that much
available at the airport.
The city is also seeking assistance from the Texas
Department of Transportation for further repairs.
“As long as it’s deemed an airport project, you could be
subject to reimbursement of up to 50 percent of contractual
work,” Alexander said.
