Hay show planned for fair
It's dry now but farmers and ranchers produced some
hay earlier this year according to Wayne Scholtz, Medina
County Extension Agent. To find out the quality of this
hay, Scholtz suggests entering it in the Hay Show at the
Medina County Fair. By entering the hay in the show,
growers will receive a free protein analysis. The Hay
Show is being sponsored by Helena Chemical Company
in Hondo.
To enter the hay show, producers need to bring one
square bale or about 20 pounds of hay from a round bale to
any of the following locations by Sept. 1. Samples will be
taken and sent to the Texas A&M Forage lab for testing.
Results will be available at the Medina County Fair on
Sept. 15 and 16.
Locations to bring hay are as follows: Medina County
Extension Office, 1506 Avenue M, Hondo; Mumme's Inc.,
Rio Medina; Mangold Grain, La Coste; Morales Industries,
Devine.
For more information contact Wayne Scholtz at (830)
741-6180 or come by the Extension office.
