McArdle’s Mid-Week Bargain Plums
The Special bargains which the McArdle Store is offering for this Mid-Week Sale should certainly appeal to the economically inclined
shoppers of San Antonio and especially to parents of children who will soon have to be fixed up for the school days which will soon begin.
It surely takes a lot of money to fix up the youngsters and you must needs be compelled to find the store where you can make your money
reach the farthest. We can save you more on anything your boy or girl needs for school wear than any other store in San Antonio and
we advise you to come here at once as by so doing you will save unnecessary running about The bargains mentioned below are only a
few of many as everything in the store has been proportionately reduced—but come here tomorrow and see for yourself.

LABOR DAY
Democratic Candidate Talks to
Workers Whose Guest He
Is in Chicago.
Chicago ill.. September 7.—William
Jennings Bryan was the center of a
day celebration that outranked
similar celebrations in Chicago for
years past. From the moment of hi»
arrival except for an hour he spent
as the guest of the Iroquois c;u:> at
luncheon he was in the hands of la-
bor men practically all day.
The first public appearance of the
democratic presidential camti'ta'e was
on the reviewing stand on the bal-
cony before the national democratic
headquarters at the Auditorium an-
nex where the Labor dax parade
with approximately 20.000 union nm
and women in line passed in review
before him.
Mr. Bryan was met at the railway
station by a committee representing
the injunction reform leagtm. whicn
organization was host for the day and
escorted him to the Auditorium. After
the parade he was whisked away to
the Great Northern hotel to the Iro-
quois chib luncheon w hero he made
a brief talk to the club members He
then entered an auto which conveyed
him to Forest park where he wts to
address the union men at 4 o eioch on
the subject of •’Abuse of Injunction tn
Labor Disputes." At 7 o'clock in the
evening he spoke to the dooii.t.tl
workers at Brands' park on the uonn-
west side of the city.

In his speech Mr. Bryan said:
There are two questions Intimatey
connected with the labor problem up-
on which the democratic and republi
can parties do not agree and 1 not
| only feel at liberty to discuss these
j but under the circumstances. ’ have
। no right to ignore them. One relates
io of injunctions. The repub-
lican "onvention did not deal candid!”
with the laboring man on the pubjeev
of the writ of injunction. Secretary
Taft has endeavored Io amend his
platform in this respect and to make
some premises whica are not sup-
ported by his platform but his preen-
' ises ofter nothing subEtanya! in the
way of reform and are not binding
। on republican senators and members.
The republican congress has already
made a record on labor questions and
the republican party cannot escape
from that record.
Mr. Taft's speech may b.- consid-
ered as binding upon '.tm b u the con-
vention which selected t'a. republi-
can candidates endorsed the republi
can platform—not Mr Taft’s personal
views. The republicai plaiform. white
pretending: to pledge some modifies
tion of the law. contains an exception
clause which reiterates the very lan-
guage of the law. Whether this excep-
tion clause was by accident
or design the effect is the snni“. It
merely provides in suostance that is
straining orders shall not issue with-
out notice except .vherc such order
। can now issue without notic~. The
platform was a triumph for those who
have been opposing the labeling man
and they have been boasting of their
victory.
The democratic platform on this
subject copies the language which the
labor organizations submitted to the
republican and democratic conven
tions. Mr. Taft in his notification
speech objects to the language. He
charges that the anti-injunction plank
was "loosely drawn" and framed for
‘‘the especial purpose of rendering It
"susceptible to one interpretation by
one set of men. and a diametrically
oposlte interpretation by another'
As Mr. Taft has had king experience
on the bench and Is therefore skilled
in the interpretation of language. •

be treated with rigid impartiality."
Surely he cannot find two interpret!-
tfons to the phrase ‘‘rigid impar-
tiality. -
I'pon the jury question Mr. Taft
clearly takes issue with us. He is thor-
oughly aroused by what b“ regards as
a menace to the. courts. Here is his
lament:
“Never in the bistory cf the coun-
try has there been such an Insidious
attack upon the judicial sys'em as the
proposal to interject a jury trial be-
tween all orders of the court made
after full hearing and th enforce-
ment ot such orders."
This would come under the head of
