WASHINGTON, May 7.— Some j
republican house leaders professed
late today to see a poses
the immigration bill conferees ,
might reverse their previous decis- 1
ion and recommend postponement
__of Japanese exclusion until some .j
date several months hence.-------I-
As a result of the intervention of
President Coolidge, it was said, re-
publican managers in congress
were giving serious consideration
to a proposal that the date be fix-
ed as March 1, 1925. The presi-
dent’s original proposal was a de-1 1
lay until March 1. 1926.
Meantime conferees on the bill
went back into session after Sen-
ator Reed of Pennsylvania and
Representative Johnson of Wash-

the senate and house, respectively,
had been summoned to the White
House.

T WASHINGTON, May T.—A move
to force at this session the issue of
American participation in the world
court was made yesterday from the
democratic side of the senate.
Senator Swanson, of Virginia,
ranking minority leader of the for-
duced a resolution proposing that
the senate advise and consent to
such participation and announced
he would exert himself and have
the matter promptly acted upon
i both by the foreign relations com-
| mittee and the senate.
“I delayed introducing this res-
olution,” Senator Swanson said,
"hoping some republican would
take active steps to carry out one
of the principal recommendations
of President Coolidge in his annual
message to congress. There is a
widespread impression in the coun-
try and in the senate that the rec-
ommendation of the administration
Mir adhesion to the permanent
court of international justice was
simply a political gesture tn re-
Heve the republicans frombroken
promises and aid the political sit-
uation for the coming campaign.
Republican action on the resolu-
tion will show if this suspicion was
justified, Swanson said.

Diamond Mine
For You
Certain South African farmers were poverty stricken.
They said the soil was too rocky to plow. They com-
plained that their children were in rags—that they
had to play with pebbles instead of toys.
The pebbles were diamonds. But the farmers didn’t
know. Many of them died poor.
Don’t be like the South African farmers! Don’t
seek opportunity in some distant place and overlook
the wealth that is daily within your grasp.
