Junior tennis tournament results
Cuero Texas Tennis Association
recently held its Summer Junior
Tournament reporting the follow-
ing results.
In girls singles ages 12 and un-
der, Anne Marie Leslie of Cuero
took first place with Kristina Wil-
liams of Stockdale second and
Leticia Eldridge of Cuero third.
Girls singles ages 18 and under Boys singles, 12 and under, win-
saw Mary Zapata of Cuero take ner was Renee Torres of Stockdale
first place with Wendy Kniffen of with Marcos Marquez of Stockdale

for golf tourney
Booster workday
Several members of the Gobbler Booster Club met at the
stadium Saturday morning to clean and repaint the press
boxes for the coming football season. The Booster Club Is
having a membership drive tonight at Davis Plumbing and
will old their annual Kick-Off Barbeque on Tuesday, Aug. 17.

The Gobbler Booster Club will
start the new football season with a
membership drive and ladies night
tonight (Wed esday) at 7 p.m. at
Davis Plumbi. • on FM 236.
Membership in the Booster Club
is $5.
The Booster Club is planning
this year’s Gobbler Kick-Off Ban-
quet which will be Tuesday,
August 17, at 7:30 p.m. at the VFW
Hall.
Tickets will be available from
any Booster Club member or at
Cuero Federal Savings and Loan
for $5 each.
The banquet is held each year to
introduce the coaches and athletes
to the public. All proceeds from the
Booster Club are used to support
the Cuero athletes.
Cuero Country Club has set its
annual golf tournament for August
14-15 at Cuero Golf Course. It will
be a two-man scramble and entry
fee is $75 per player.
The tournament will kick-off
with a Tajita party at the Country
Club on Friday night free to players
and guests. On Saturday there will
be wine and cheese for the ladies
with drawings for prizes. Starting at
6:30 there will be a social with
music provided by "Cowboys and
All That Jazz". Dinner will follow
with prize presentations and day
money payoff.
Some of the highlights of the
tournament will include activities
for ladies, surprise prizes, hole-in-

Boys singles, 14 and under, win-
ner was Chris Salmon of Stockdale
with Brandon Rivera of Shiner
second and Jarad Adams of Stock-
dale third.
For boys singles, 16 and under,
the winner was Robert Bruns of
Shiner while Gucci Torres of
Stockdale was second and Michael
Bartosh of Cuero was third.
Boys 19 and under singles in-
cluded Kenneth Martinez of Stock-
dale first, Burt Torres of Stockdale
one prizes, free gift bag for each second and Richard Marquez of
player, long drive contest, short Stockdale third.

Scheduled prizes include $500
for first place, $350 for second,
$250 for third, and $150 for fourth.
The entry deadline is August 10.

In the doubles competition for
boys 12 and under the winners
were Renee Torres and Marbos
Marquez of Stockdale while second
place went to Andrew Heard and
Ryan Wessels of Cuero.
Boys doubles for 18 year olds in-
cluded Burt Torres and Saul Mar-
tinez of Stockdale first, Kenneth
Martinez and Richard Marquez of
Stockdale second and Robert Bruns
and Brandon Rivera of Shiner third
This tournament benefited the
Cuero chapter of United States
Tennis Association and National
Junior Tennis League. It was the
closing activity for this year’s

The next tournament in Cuero
will be Labor Day weekend. It will
be for ages 10-18 and adults. T-
shirts and trophies will be
presented to winners. For more in-

Director Mickey Finley reports it is
time to start two-a-day workouts
for the coming football season.
Starting today (Wednesday) ath-
letes in grades 9 through 12 are
asked to be at the field house at 7
a.m. Equipment will be issued at 8
a.m. The first workout will be from

tickets
on sale
: Cuero Gobbler football season
tickets will go on sale this week at
the Wednesday night Booster Club
meeting.
Tickets will be $20 for the five
home games or $4 per game. Park-
ing permits will also be sold for
$10 each for reserved parking next
to the stadium.
After Wednesday season tickets
may be purchased at the school ad-
ministration building between 8
a.m. and noon on weekdays.
This year’s home games will be
Sept. 3 - Columbus; Sept. 24 -
Sweeney; Oct. 1 - Edna
(Homecoming); Oct. 15 - Yoakum;
Nov. 5 - Lavernia.

Yorktown Country Club has set
its 3-Person Best Ball golf tourna-
ment for Saturday, August 21. The
entry fee is $90 per team which in-
cludes green fees, mulligans, happy
hour and an evening meal.
It will be an 18-holc, best ball
tournament and teams can consist
of men, women or any combination
of both. Tee times will be at 8 a.m.
