meme.s of the Quarterback
Club
Plans call for contacting
about 760 people to become
contributing members of the
Bearcat Quarterback Club.
."Several people have
asked how the Quarterback
Club found itself with such a
large balance owing on the
lights," Roy Bassett, club
president, said
"If I understand it
correctly," he said, "the club
undertook to put new lights
at Bearcat Stadium several
years ago. They then
decided that while they
were at it they would take
the old lights and place them
at the practice field.
Somehow, they ended up
deciding to light the tennis
courts at the high school
while they were at it.”
The original estimate for
all that work was some
$12,000 to $13,000. But they
fell victim to Murphy’s Law
No. 17 which says "Any
given project will cost more
than the original estimate.'
“In this case, they had to
run a special line to one of
the locations where they
intended to put lights, and
even though many people
donated time and labor to
dig ditches for cable, to dig
holes and set poles, and to
place lights and wiring, the
cost over run came to some
$6,000. So they signed a note
at the bank.
“Then, for one reason or
another, the Quarterback
Club came on hard times,
and for a few years now they
have been able to pay only
the interest on the note—the
years they could even do
that.
“That is why
it is
especially important for us
to have a good membership
drive this year.
"Besides, this will proba-
bly be the last year that
people ran join the Quarter
back Club for $6. The
membership fee has been
that for several years
now-and inflation is hitting
Quarterback Club projects
just as it is everything else.”
The Membership Drive
will kick off Wednesday,
July 9. at 6:30 a.m. with
coffee and doughnuts rour
tesy & Farmers & Mer-
chants State Bank. “We
hope to have it off the
streets by Monday the 14th.
Bassett said.
