I wish to thank the artists, dancers, musicians and writers who graciously gave their time
in discussion of their work and of ideas related to the period. In some cases this
amounted to many hours. Of these people: some have been discussed in one or more of
the following articles, the works of others are included in the exhibition and still others
will come to Dallas to read or perform. Many of their biographies are contained in the
biographical section. If brevity had not been an issue the works of all would have been
considered at length. The brief descriptions which follow are in most cases inadequate
to express the full scope of their work. I am deeply indebted to them not only for their
time, but also for the strength and significance of their work.
