WALLY HEDRICK
Born in Pasadena, California 1928. Studied at Otis Art Institute, Los Angeles, California
College of Arts and Crafts, Oakland, California School of Fine Arts, San Francisco
(B.F.A.), San Francisco State College (M.F.A.). 1959 started teaching at California School
of Fine Arts. One-man shows include: Pasadena Art Center, 1950; Area Arts Gallery, San
Francisco, 1954; Oakland Art Museum, 1958; Isaacs Gallery, Toronto, 1961. Some group
exhibitions: "Sixteen Americans," Museum of Modern Art, New York, 1959; "Places-A
Collaboration of 4 Artists," San Francisco Museum of Art, 1962; "The Construction as an
Object of Illusion," San Francisco Art Institute, 1962; "The New Paintings of Common
Objects," Pasadena Art Museum, 1962. Lives in San Geronimo, California.
GEORGE HERMS
Born in Woodland, California 1935. 1957 at Hermosa Beach built and lived in an
assemblage environment. Close friendship with Wallace Berman. 1958 moved to
Larkspur, California setting up in an abandoned home, exhibited his and other artists
works. 1962 moved to Topanga, California. Had periodic exhibits called "Tap City
Circus." One-man exhibitions include: "Secret Exhibition," Hermosa Beach, California,
1957; "Jubilee," Tuolumne, California, 1959; Batman Gallery, California, 1961;
"Faithquake," Molly Barnes Gallery, Los Angeles, 1969. Some group exhibitions: "Art of
Assemblage," Museum of Modern Art, New York, 1961; "Assemblage in California,"
University of California, Irving, 1968. Films include: "The t Cross," "L" and "O," made with
Paul Beattie, 1961-64; "Jewelface" with Larry Jordan, 1962-64; "Chimes of Freedom"
with William Jahrmarkt, 1964; "Moonstone" with Dean Stockwell, 1963-66; "Lightwork
I- Motherstation," 1972. Designed sets for "Blossom or Billy the Kid," 1964 and
environment for the lobby of "The Beard," 1967 both by Michael McClure; "Egg of Nite"
by George Herms, 1970. Lives in Los Angeles.
JOHN CLELLON HOLMES
Born in Holyoke, Massachusetts 1926. Student at Columbia 1943, 45-46; New School for
Social Research 1946-50. 1952 wrote Go using Kerouac and Ginsberg as characters.
Visiting lecturer at Yale 1959; State University of Iowa 1963-64; writer in residence
University of Arkansas 1966; visiting professor at Bowling Green State University 1968;
Brown University 1971-72. Publications include: The Horn, 1958; Get Home Free, 1964;
Nothing More to Declare, 1967. Lives in Old Saybrook, Connecticut.154
