TEXAS JEWISH POST #SINCE 1947
"Shelly has done so much
for bridging Texas and
Israeli companies. He is a
good example of our orga-
nization,"
Greg Yavner,
TiCoC president and CEO
wonderful people who are involved
with the organization. I hope there
continues to be a great working re-
lationship between businesses here
and in Israel."
According to Yavner, having a
connection with Israel is impor-
tant because Texas is the third big-
gest state with imports to Israel,
it has more Fortune 1000 compa-
nies than any other state and Gov.
Rick Perry supports the relation-
ship. A nonprofit organization, the
TiCoC has industry committees in
high-tech, cleantech, life sciences,
homeland security and defense,
medicine, nanotechnology, man-
ufacturing, professional services
and venture capital.
The TiCoC had many success-
es during 2010, including having
2,000 businesspeople either attend
a TiCoC event or listen in to indus-
try committee calls; hosting the
largest delegation of Israeli com-
panies ever to the United States
for its Cleanovation Conference in
Austin; partnering a major Texas
health system and Israeli innova-
tor to apply for a Cancer Preven-
tion Research Institute of Texas
grant; creating the Texas Nano-
technology Innovation Portal; and
assisting Rabin Medical Center
in signing an agreement with UT
Southwestern.
TiCoC Board Member Ion Sha-
piro, president and CEO of the
Texas Institute, said the momen-
tum of the organization over the
past few years has been wonderful
and he hopes the dinner will lead
to even more accomplishments in
2011.
"Shelly is great, and looking at
what he has accomplished in busi-
ness and philanthropically, he has
done so much for the community
through fundraising and involve-
ment," he said. "This is a way to
honor people who have signifi-
cantly contributed to our commu-
nity and celebrate their hard work
and good deeds. We are looking
forward to honoring him."

'American Greed' episode to

(JTA) — Jailed former Agripro-
cessors official Sholom Rubash-
kin will be featured in an episode
of the CNBC series "American
Greed."
The March 23 episode of the
cable TV network series will tell
the story of the failed kosher
meatpacking plant in Postville,
Iowa, according to the Gazette of
Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The episode
is being billed with the tagline
"The head of a kosher slaughter-
house uses unorthodox methods
to make money"
Rubashkin, 51, is serving a
27-year prison sentence and was
ordered to pay $26 million in
restitution after being convicted
in November 2009 on 86 counts

of financial wrongdoing. He was
the highest-level executive of the
plant to be prosecuted following a
May 2008 immigration raid that
led to the arrest of nearly 400 il-
legal workers, most of whom were
deported.
The plant went bankrupt in
late 2008 and has since reopened
under new ownership as Agri Star
Meat and Poultry.
