  • Content Description: Map shows state boundaries, major cities, ports, and towns, mail routes, existing and proposed railroads, major roads with distances, and shipping routes for the continental United States, Mexico, the West Indies, Central America, and the northwestern portion of South America; western territories of the U.S. include Dakota, Nebraska, Washington, Oregon, [unlabeled lower Idaho], Utah, New Mexico, Arizona, Kansas, and Indian Territory; eastern portion of [modern day] Colorado is split between Nebraska, Kansas, and New Mexico territories but unlabeled [or partially labeled as "Colona"]; major shipping routes and historical routes of exploration for the Atlantic Ocean and portions of the Pacific Ocean on inset. Includes illustrations of ships, historical notes, "Table of Distances", and "Table showing the route of the steamers of the United States and Mexican Mail Steam Ship Line and the various ports in the Gulf of Mexico at which they are to touch, as also the distances between the said ports."
