passed and to table the motion to re-
consider.

HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION
NO. 42 ON SECOND READING
The Chair laid before the House on
its second reading and passage to en-
grossment,H. J. R. No. 42, House Joint Reso-
lution Proposing a Constitutional
Amendment authorizing the Legisla-
ture to appropriate to cities and coun-
ties a portion of the receipts from
the limited sales, excise and use tax.
The resolution was read second
time.
(Speaker in the Chair)
Mr. Vale offered the following
amendment to the resolution:
Amend H. J. R. No. 42 by deleting
all of Section 51 h (A) and substi-
tuting in lieu thereof the following:
"Section 51 h (A) The Legislature
may by appropriation return to each
county a portion of the revenue de-
rived from the imposition of the lim-
ited sales, excise and use tax on sales
or uses of tangible property in the
county. The amount returnable to the
county shall be allocated as follows:
Each county shall be paid a frac-
tion of the amount equal to the ratio
of its population to the total popula-
tion of the state according to the last
preceding federal census.
and by further deleting any reference
to city in any section thereafter.
Mr. Traeger moved to table the
above amendment offered by Mr.
Vale, and the motion to table prevail-
ed.
Mr. Price offered the following
amendment to the resolution:
Amend H. J. R. No. 42 by adding
the following at the end of Section
3:
"The publication of this Amend-
ment shall be limited to the publi-
cation of Sections 1 and 2 of this
resolution only."
The amendment was adopted with-
out objection.

temporarily)
