Starr County 4-Hers
Win at District meet
Nixie Starr County 4-H members
frqpi Rio Grande City par-
ticipated in the District 4-H
Roundup Contest and were
among the top winners. Seven
of those competing will
represent Extension District 12
at the State Roundup contest to
be held at Texas A&M
University in June.
The 4-H'ers representing
Starr County included the four
team demostrations of Lupita
Cruz and Chris Martinez,
Bonnie Munoz and Lazaro
Rodriguez, Jr., Cynthia
Hinojosa and Marisa Cortez,
and Raul Hinojosa and Heron
Escobar. An individual
demonstration was presented
by Mario Guillen.
The Landscape Horiculture
demonstration by Raul and
Heron and the Farm and Ranch
Management demonstration by
Mario received first received
first place honors in Kingsvilie.
Taking a second place was the
Electric demonstration
presented by Lupita and Chris
and the Community Resource
Development demonstration of
Bonnie and Lazaro. These
Senior 4-H'ers will present their
demonstrations at State 4-H
Roundup in competition with
the top teams from the other
twelve districts in Texas
Placing third in the Safety
and Emergency Preparedness
division was the team of Cyn-
thia and Marisa.
The 4-H members were
assisted in preparing their
demonstrations by County
Extension Agents, Ida A. Perez
and David Sandefer.

A life-long daughter of Rio
Grande City Mrs. Hernan
Garza died at Roma's Ramirez
Memorial Hospital early
Sunday morning at 1:45 a.m. of
a cardiac arrest.
Mrs. Garza, born May 25,1905
was 68 years old, the patriarch
of of a closely knit Rio Grande
City family, is survived by her
husband, Hernan Garza. Mrs.
Garza was rushed to Ramirez
Memorial suffering from chest
pains and was later over come
by a series of attacks that ended
her life.
Mrs. Garza, an active
Catholic, was known mostly for
her closely knit family, whom
are know to most Starr Coun-

The Rio Grande City Little
League Association has arv-
nounced the schedule of games
for the 1974 Little League
season.
The RGC Little League
Association opens game action
tonight at 6:45 with introduction
of all the players for the six
teams that will make-up the
league. The first game will
Cardinals and the Cubs with
gametime slated for 7:30 p.m.

young boys out for the season
and we hope the parents and
general public will support
them by attending the games."

survived by one son Hernan R.
Garza Jr., five daughters Mrs.
Rene Villarreal, Ms. Concha
Gavilan, Mrs. Rafael Pena,
Mrs. Adan Rosa and Mrs. Lino
Canales. She is also survived by-
one daughter in law Mrs.
Hernan Garza Jr.
Also surviving Mrs. Garza is
one sister Ms. Maria L. Laurel,
five brothers Marcos, Luciano,
Ernesto, Reyna'do and lino
Lopez. 16 grandchildren and 2
'.grand children also
survive Mr. Garza.
Funeral services followed
Catholic services at Im-
maculate Conception Catholic
Church at 5 p.m. Monday af-
ternoon under the direction of
Ceballos Funeral Directors of
Rio Grande City.

Ix>pez, Rolando Lopez, lino
Lopez Jr., Enrique Lopez, Elias
Lopez Jr., Alfredo Laurel Jr.,
Honorary pallbearers were
Estevan Garcia, Miguel
Valadez Jr., Anselmo Longoria,
Pete Diaz Jr., Alberto Montalvo
Jr., Reynaldo Alaniz, George
Decker and Rene Smith.
