at Jones & Jones in McAilen.

of McAilen High School,
attended Pan American
University and is employed
at The Ranch at La Plaza
Mall in McAilen.

Roma Beta Sigma Phi Chapter
The home of Mrs. Pablo
Pena Jr. was the setting of a
tea for the prospective
members of a new Beta
Sigma Phi chapter in Roma.
The tea was given by all
the members of Xi Kappa
Iota on Oct. 1, from 4 to 5
p.m.
The theme "Seek New
Horizons" was beautifully
depicted in a flower
arrangement of yellow
gladiola, baby mums and
white chrysanthemums.
Two globes on the
arrangement highlighted the
theme.
"The creative talents of
Mrs. Humberto Garza and
Mrs. Herminio Saenz were
exquisitely displayed in the
centerpiece and in the in-
dividual corsages given to
each guest," Mrs. Pena
commented.
The corsages were
composed of a yellow rose
and baby's breath. The
yellow rose is the flower of
Beta Sigma Phi.
Receiving guests at the
door were Mrs. Pena and
Mrs. Romeo Lopez, chair-
man of the Friendly Venture
Committee which helps the
new Beta Sigma Phi
chapters get started locally.

He had lived in San Antonio

What is Happiness? 'Happiness is having a
fried On whom you can count until the end. It's
praying together. In all sorts of weather. ThaCs
what happiness is. Happiness is sharing one's
wealth, and having good health. It's worshipping
all the time, In rain or sunshine. What better
happiness than this? Happiness is watching your
team win through thick and through thin. It's
enjoying the moments in a spirit of common sense.
This is happiness and bliss. Happiness is praising
God every day for whatever joys he sends our
way. It's singing to the Lord and lifting up each
word. Happiness is knowing you can't miss." Ask
me what happiness is. To me happiness is knowing
someone who can love the Ixird and write poems
about happiness even when shadows seem to fall
on her and her family. The preceding poem was
written by Maria Imelda Rodriguez.
Congratulations are in order for Mr. and Mrs.
Rafael Ybanez. The couple are the proud parents
of a baby girl. Their daughter made her arrival on
Monday, September 11, at McAilen General
Hospital. The family makes their home in
Salineno.
Sisters Natalie and Alma Rosa Luna were
honored with a birthday party on Sunday, October
1. Natalie, 18, and Alma Rosa, 10, are the
daughters of Mrs. Natalia Luna, and they were
given the party by their sisters. A group of friends
and relatives helped them celebrate at their Rio
Grande City home with a pinata and refresh-
ments.
It's a girl! Pricilla Ann Marroquin greeted
proud parents Mr. and Mrs. Carlos F. Marroquin
and sister Belinda at 8:57 p.m. on Thursday,
September 21. The newest addition to the Rio
Grande City family weighed in at 6 lbs., 7 ozs. on
arrival at McAilen General Hospital. The grand-
parents are Mr. and Mrs. Luz Marroquin of Rio
Grande City, Mrs. Elizabeth F. Gomez of Rio
Grande City, and Guillermo Gomez, Jr. of
California.
It's a boy! Mr. and Mrs. Rene Armando
Gonzalez of Rio Grande City greeted a brand new
baby boy at Ramirez-Gonzalez Family Clinic on
Thursday, September 21. I^auro weighed in at 7
lbs., 12M> ozs. at 4:04 p.m. The family resides in
Rio Grande City.
Mrs. 0. F. Guffey was chairman for a program
entitled, "The Japanese Woman at Home, in the
Church, and in the World" at the regular meeting
of the WMU of the First Baptist Church. The
meeting was held at the home of Mrs. Alex Gabert
on Monday evening. Taking part in the program
were Mrs. Roger Williams, Mrs. A. V. Peterson,
Mrs. James Peterson, and Mrs. H.L. Bass.
President Mrs. Glen Granger presided during the
business meeting, and the World Day cf Prayer
meeting was planned. Thirteen women enjoyed
the program and refreshments served by the
hostess. Following adjournment, the members
took part in a project of sacking beans for the Rev.
Gebhart's mission work.
A Roma couple are the proud parents of a baby
girl. Mr. and Mrs. Victor Montoya welcomed the
pretty pink package delivered at McAilen General
Hospital. Their daughter made her arrival on
Thursday, September 21.
The U.S. Air Force has promoted Salvador
Garcia to the rank of staff sergeant. Sergeant
Garcia is serving at Bitburg AB, Germany, as a
material facilities specialist. He is the son of Mrs.
Ignacia Gomez of Rio Grande City. Garcia is a
1971 graduate of Rio Grande City High School.
Saturday, September 23, was a special day for
Mr. and Mrs. Erasmo Garza of Rio Grande City.
The couple have a brand new daughter born on
that day at Ramirez-Gonzalez Family Clinic.
Elisa Cristina arrived at 11:20 a.m.
weighing 7 lbs., 7M> ozs.
Mr. and Mrs. Reyes Reyna, Jr. also found
Saturday, September 23, to be a sp cial day. Their
daughter was born at 7:26 a.m. on that day at
Ramirez-Gonzalez Family Clinic Haydee
weighed 7 lbs. oz. The family is from Rio
Grande City.
Texas A&I University students have elected
class officers and Student Congress
representatives. Five hundred fifty-four students
voted. Representatives to the Student Congress
include Maria Rita Alcazar of Rio Grande City
and Ofelia I. Villarreal of Hebbronville, both of
leacher Education, and Yolanda Perez of Rio
Grande City, representative-at-large.
Roma's population increased by at least one on
Sunday, September 24. Mr. and Mrs Jose Luis
Cantu of Roma have a brand new baby girl born on
that day. Their daughter made her arrival at
McAilen General Hospital.
A darling, dimpled daughter was born to Mr.
and Mrs. Roel Gonzalez on Tuesday,: September
26. Th? newest addition to their family arrived at
McAilen General Hospital. The family lives in Rio
Grande City.
Omar Mascorro was honored with a birthday
party at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 25.
Omar was three years old. His parents have him
the party at the Early Childhood Development
Center with his classmates helping him celebrate.
A little cowgirl lassoed the hearts of Mr. and
Mrs. Guillermo Ramirez. Their daughter was
born on Thursday, September 21, at McAilen
General Hospital. The Ramirez ranch is in Rio
Grande City.
Anniversaries celebrated were Mr. and Mrs. F.
V. Ramon and Mr. and Mrs. Juan Lino Perez, Jr.,
September 4; Mr. and Mrs. Flavio Villarreaij
September 7; Mr and Mrs. Silvestre E. .jna, -
