RGCCISD trustees
vote to appeal values
The Rio Grande City CISD board
of trustees decided at their meeting
early last week to appeal valuations
of property to the Texas Education
Agency in hopes that a favorable
decision will result in increased
state funding.
Superintendent Ruben Saenz told
The Rio Grande Herald, "We are
going to appeal the property values
to TEA. We have contracted with
the law firm of Calame, Linebarger,
Graham and Pena. They (the law
firm) appealed (earlier) to the State
Comptroller's Office and values (in
the RGCCISD) were reduced by
$25 million."
Saenz explained that as a general
rule, lower valuations mean
increased state funding.
Saenz indicated that the
valuations agreed to by the
Comptroller's Office will be in
effect for the 1993-94 school year.
The superintendent noted, "We
are appealing to TEA to see if these
reduced values can be used
retroactively for 1992-93."
On another matter, the trustees
approved numerous bids for
cafeteria equipment to be utilized at
Roque Guerra Elementary. Saenz
noted that Top of the Table Co., a
San Antonio firm, had the winning
overall bid of approximately
$106,000.

Nurse assistants make daily
contributions to the quality of life
of the elderly and infirm in nursing
homes.
Having personal contact with the
residents in one-on-one situations,
nurse assistants share special
relationships with those they care
for.
"Nurse assistants receive
state-approved training and must
take a written test and demonstrate
their skills before their training is
complete," said, Florencio Lopez,
administrator at Retama Manor. "In
addition, being a nurse assistant
requires patience and compassion.
Their job is of great importance to
the facility's caregiving team."
