Joyce Jillson's Horoscope
The week starts off on a favorable
note with the moon in Gemini contrib-
uting to good communications. Plunge
ahead into shark infested emotional
waters, and you'll find less danger than
others had warned against. By Thurs-
day, pull back and assess romantic and
financial gains, and make slight
changes in strategy. Investors lose
when they seek out stocks without track
records.
ARIES (March 21-April 19) Vary
your approach. Be willingtoplan your
future instead of kowtowing to others.
By Wednesday, phone callsbringgreat
news and offers. On Friday, a decision
must be made. Overall, you present a
confident personality. You'll have luck
with sales.
TAURUS (April 20-May 20) Step
up efforts to get your plan through.
Officials are lenient if you appear per-
sistent. Companions overreach their
authority on Thursday. Don't be
blamed for it. You'll have luck in love
with someone visiting a friend. Get
things in wiiting; photocopy docu-
ments.
GEMINI (May 21-June 20) You
are inundated and need help or you
must back out of a responsibility. Take
care of your health. Stop trying to be
perfect. Luck comes when you stand
up for what is right. A lover admires
your actions and decides to change an
opinion.
CANCER (June 21-July 22) This
week brings lots of intrigue and se-
crets. Get to the bottom of a matter;
don't be put off by minor criticism. A
family truce on Friday lifts a heavy
burden. Get ready for money connected
to a jo'o done on speculation. On Satur-
day, new love is best.
LEO (July 23-Aug. 22) Observe,
and then make your move. Business
deals are off and then on again, but
your strong will brings things to a
close next week. You are lucky when it
comes to real estate, loans and credit.
Assumptions about a lover are correct.
Money arrives through partners.

the world this is your year. You ooze
confidence, charisma and sex appeal.
In June and August, your words carry
great weight; others accede to your
demands, requests and suggestions.
Your creative juices flow in May —
the money from this outburst comes in
September. Outrageous gifts, raises,
bonuses and settlements abound in July
and November. Move in December.
Look for love with a moneyed Gemini
or Capricorn.
VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22) Get
away from outstretched hands. Start
taking for a change; others will actu-
ally respect you more. Timing is right
in love on Wednesday. New jobs or
part-time business shows promise, if
you change your concept just a bit.
LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23) Some-
one you befriended from out of the
blue produces the job, money and
know-how to launch a dream you've

Pointers On Pets
People Can Become Infected With Worms
Commonly Found In Dogs And Cats
(NAPS)—Children and parents
in pet-owning families can become
infected with worms harboreo by
their pets. Unless preventive steps
are taken, these families may be
exposed to a "zoonotic" health threat
or diseases that can be transmitted
from animals to humans.
According to current statistics,
nearly six out of every ten Amer-
ican households include a dog or a
cat among their family members.
With these statistics in mind,
health experts and veterinarians
are educating pet owners about
the human health threat associat-
ed with worms commonly found in
their dog or cat. Four gastroin-
testinal parasites, or worms, often
found in dogs and cats are round-
worms, tapeworms, hookworms
and whipworms (dogs only).
Roundworms And Hookworms
A Common Problem
Experts state that almost all
puppies and kittens are infected at
birth with roundworms or hook-
worms, or both. Puppies and kittens
can be infected during gestation if
the mother is infected, or infected
from their mother's milk through
nursing. The mother can be infected
even though no sign of illness has
been seen by the pet owner.
Severe roundworm or hookworm
infections in puppies and kittens
can be life threatening. It is impor-
tant, whether symptoms of worm
infection are apparent or not, that
puppies and kittens be taken to a
veterinarian as soon as possible.
Most pet owners are not aware that
this first visit to a veterinarian for
worm diagnosis and treatment for
their puppy or kitten should be at
a very early age, before it is time for
beginning the routine schedule of
pet health vaccinations.
The control of worms in pets
has a two-fold purpose. The health
of the pet is a primary concern. An
equally important concern is pro-
tecting the environment from
worm eggs which are shed by
infected animals, contaminating
surroundings and presenting a
health threat to other pets and
family members.
Puppies and kittens that carry
a prenatal worm infection from
their mother can begin shedding
worm eggs into the environment
as early as two weeks for puppies
and three weeks for kittens. It is
these eggs in the pet's surround-
ings that pose an ongoing health
threat to children, adults, and
other pets in the household.
Homes with pets are also like-
ly to have children. That's why it
is so important to take precau-
tion against parasites.
Worm infection from pets typi-
cally occurs by way of eggs in con-
taminated soil, which are transferred
to the hands and then to the mouth,
or by eggs on the fur of the animal
passing to the mouth of children.
Particularly at risk are children
between the ages of one and four
years with a history of eating dirt,
and children who come in close con-
tact with soil or a pet during play.
Many of these infections in chil-
dren or adults are asymptomatic,
meaning that there is no outward
sign of illness. But in numerous cases
the infection can lead to severe organ
damage and health problems. For
example, Dr Peter Shantz of the
CDC (Centers for Disease Control
and Prevention) states that about
10,000 American children are
infected with zoonotic parasites each
year, and an estimated 700 of these
children lose vision due to the worm
infection. Vision loss occurs as worm
larvae migrate to the eye and pro-
duce a scar on the retina of the eye
or cause even worse eye damage.
Regular Exams And New
Products Offer Family
Members Protection
For pet-owning families, two
things offer protection against human
infection from worms in pets. First
is cleanliness. Yards and kennels
should be kept clear of feces. And
hands should be washed carefully
after handling or playing with a pet.
The second preventive measure
against worm infection from pets is
regular visits to a veterinarian so
that your pet can be examined for
worms. Pets can be treated when a
positive diagnosis is made. Pet own-
ers should ask their veterinarian for
more information about gastroin-
testinal parasites and the new prod
ucts available for protection of both
pets and family members.
