Students Rebuild Houses, L ives in Biloxi, Mississippi
^ was glad to have the opportunity to go to Biloxi over spring
break to help the hurricane victims of Katrina. I was amazed to
see the devastation first-hand. The trip challenged me physically,
spiritually, and emotionally Even though we were only in
Mississippi for a short time, I believe that our presence showed
the people that the nation has not forgotten about them. I hope
that we gave the people strength to continue rebuilding despite
^^The ASB mission-pilgrimage was a singular moment of grace for me.
Despite the small headaches of travel plans gone awry and credit card mishaps,
I felt the Holy Spirit's loving hand moving these students to do the Lord's
work. They gave of their time and energy in physical labor; they listened
patiently to those devastated by the hurricanes; and they worked almost
effortlessly as a team, as a Church, if you will, to be witnesses to what God is
capable of in the lives of those who hear and see His Word. I am deeply proud
of these students and the University of Dallas community can be as well.

-Fr. Philip Powell, campus minister
Simplicity, prayer and service were our main
goals on this pilgrimage, and I'm proud to say
that we accomplished all three. I traveled to
Biloxi expecting to rebuild wrecked houses, but
I gained something more in return. In addition
to rebuilding, I also built new friendships and
a stronger faith in God. I owe the strength
that I found to keep working hard each day to
the perseverance and hope that the hurricane
survivors conveyed. This trip helped me to
stop rushing through life and see Christ in
everything and everyone — in lonely adults,
innocent children, the beauty and power of
nature — which every student should do to keep
school from stressing out his life.' '
