STANDIFER CAMP REUNION.
Siloam, Williamson County, April
10, ''J~.—The Standifer Camp Con-
federate Veterans were entertained
by the Daughters of the Confederacy
at Siloam on Saturday evening April
i 10th.
An elaborate lunch was served at
5:30, after which the Veterans were
ushered by two little Daughters of
the Confederacy to seats reserved
for them in the hall, and which were
elaborately decorated with the red,
white and nlue colors. Kach Veter-
an was given a souvenir program, al-
so tied with the colors.
At 7 :•'!() the exercises began with
an address of welcome by Miss Lee
Litton, sponsor for the camp, which
was responded to by Dr. A. 1). Me*
Cullough, of Klgm. A paper pre-
pared by Mr. W. N. Scruggs, the
survivor of twenty-one battles, most
of them fought on the historic soil of
"Ole Virginia," w as read by request
of the Daughters of the Confederacy.
After the opening addresses, the
soul stirring song of Dixie was ren-
dered with a spirit that stirred the
blood ami quickened the heart beats
of the "old boys." Miss Katie Kid-
man, of Georgetown, sung the verses
of the song so dear to Southern
hearts, and the refrain was taken up
by a chorus of fresh, young voices.
Other songs of the war time follow-
ed, interspersed with various recita-
tions, all hearing on the deeds of
valor performed by the "soldiers in
grey," and on the sacrifice and cour-
age of the women of the South in the
days that tried the souls of men.
I'wo tableaux* representing woman
offering a tribute of flowers to the
shrine of the Confederate dead, and
to that of the immortal Jefferson
Davis, deserve especial mention
The girls in Greek costume of snowy
I white, after laying their offering of
(lowers around the monument, km lt
in graceful (poses while Miss Ollie
Litton, as the guardian angel of
these patriotic women, hovered
above tlicm w ith her arms out-spread
passing upon them the benediction
of "peace on earth, good will to all
men." With such a multitude of
good things it is impossible to partie.
utulizc, aiul ' re all was so Well
done it is hard to say this or tint
was best.
The program was very lengthly and
faithfully carried out, the numbers
of which were all good, and all well
sustained. In addition to the pro-
gram as given, Misses Jessie and
Helen Cuningham, daughters of Dr.
i Cuningham of Taylor, delighted the
audience with two choice recitations,
"Seeing Thing? at Night," and
Awarded
Highest Honors—World's Fair.
DR
"Baby's Shadow," and also with the
assistance of Miss Kdna Smith, they
gave the "Three Little Maids" from
Micado very sweetly.
An appropriate closing address
was made by .Mr. Homer Wade, son
of Mr. K. R. Wade, captain of the
Standifer Camp. • « •
