The clothes of Mrs. John King,
of Lminder, caught fire, and she
was burned to death.
Three boys ranging from 12 to
14 years, arrested at Marshall,

At Forley, Mrs. Rosa Lunn
died in a few moments after tak-
ing a dose of strychnine.
Six members of the Karl family
were murdered at Welsh, La. A
suspect has been arrested.
It is given out that the general
revenue rociepts of the state will
exceed $1,000,000 this month.
Kichard W. Kirchville, is dead
at Medina. He is said to be the
first white child born in Blanco
county.
A severe storm at San Fran-
cisco, cuts off telegraphic com-
munication, leaving wreck and
ruin in its trail.
Sunday a 1.12 inch rain fell at
Palestine. In these parts, it
was considerable of a flurry, but
only a very light sprinkle.
Grayson county being dry ex-
cept Denison and Sherinun, an
effort will be made to make them
also local option precincts.
At the meeting of the Panhan-
dle Teachers' association held al

ed by the old comrades, but a
rehearsal of them brought them

the battle, of which the brigade
commemorates and has its an-
imal reunions, and it was both
interesting to see the interest
with which his old comrades
listened and also to hear the re-
cital of so many unpublished
facts and deeds of valor by the
gallant command.
In concluding, the governor
paid a high tribute to the ladies
of the confederacy and ended
by exhorting the men of the
biigade to be true to each
othei. In speaking of his own
experiences Governor Savers
said that he had been traduced
and maligned more in the past
three years than he had been in
all of his life put together and
it was not deserved either. Hut
ho consoled himself with the

Thf Colored Teachers of Bastrop
county met in regular session at tho
Colored School Building in this city last
Friday, Feb. 21st. Koll was called at
12 m., twenty-two teachers responding
with quotations. The regular program
was immediately taken up as follows:

jects were fully 'jiseussed by the mem-
bers of the Institute, developing much
interest enthusiasm.
Hie committee on Summer Normal
through its Chairman, O. Wicks, re-
ported, recommending that the 2nd
series be adopted for the Normal, this
series Is'^ins on or alx>ut June 21th, and
continues 5 weeks. Great interest was
taken in the subject of the Normal. The
members of the Institute were a unit in
their purpose to make the proposed
Normal a brilliant success.

1. "Language in the Primary Depart-
ment," by Mrs. L. Kerr. Mrs. Kerr
resolved the Institute mte a primary
class and for One hour develops! her
method of t< aching language in the
fiiart and first grades to the exceeding
pleasure, interest and profit of the
Normal.
2. "Proper Incentives" was discussed
by Mi*-, V. A. M I'haul, She t >ok bold
issue with many prominent educators on
the subject of incentives. She was listen-
ed to with marked attention and was
warmly endorsed.
\i. "Astronomical Geography," by 11
B. Fry was given close attention. By
means of diagrams and globes he suc-
ceeded in making clear * >me of the
cloudy points of that subject.
The committee on Summer Normal re-
ported the following us faculty of the
proposed summer normal:

sistants, J. E. Clayton, of Elgin, J. T.
Brown, of Manor, and Mrs. L. Kerr, of
Bastrop.
