op 4-II members earn
salute at district banquet
AMARILLO—Twenty-nine outstanding 4-H Club members
from the Panhandle area were honored at the Panhandle Dis-
trict 1 45th annual Gold Star Banquet held at West Texas A&M
University November 9. Two Hemphill County 4-H members
were honored for their outstanding work in 4-H: Shauna Hector,
the 18-year-old daughter of Scott and Carla Evans and Warren
Bruce Pickens, Jr., the 17-year-old son of Bruce and Jean
Pickens.
The theme of the banquet was "The Power of Youth, a Cen-
tennial 4-H Celebration." Nationally, 4-H is celebrating its 100th
anniversary. Deaf Smith Electric Cooperative, along with
Greenbelt Electric Cooperative, Lighthouse Electric Coopera-
tive, North Plains Electric, Swisher Electric Cooperative, and
Rita Blanca Electric sponsor the annual banquet.
The banquet was planned and conducted by County Exten-
sion Agents, volunteer leaders, and 4-Hers on the District Rec-
ognition Committee. The awards were presented by Bob
Robinson and Donna Brauchi, District Extension Directors of
Texas Cooperative Extension. 4-H is the youth program of
Texas Cooperative Extension, a part of the Texas A&M system.

Two Canadian High School alumni recently received scholar-
ship awards from the College of Human Sciences at Texas Tech
University in Lubbock. The college awarded scholarships to 535
students totaling $430,700. Angela Parks Mazzolini received the
C.J. Davidson Scholarship. A senior Family Financial Planning
major, she is the daughter of Averd and Barbara Parks of Cana-
dian. Brandi Laurent Wagner received the Dr. William J. Carter
Scholarship. A senior with an Early Childhood Education major,
she is the daughter of Chuck Laurent and Sonny and Linda
Brawner of Canadian. #47

These students of Amy Winton are learn-
ing the art of entrepreneurslup while re-
fining their artistic skills by creating origi-
nal, one-of-kind Christmas cards which
will be sold at the Holiday Open House
scheduled Monday, December 2, 5-8 p.m.
Several local merchants will participate in
the Open House, deta ils of which will be
published in next week's Canadian Re-
