THE LIFE OF SUSAN V. CARRUTHERS
Susan Victoria Wyatt Carruthers, the only child of
Catherine D. Connor Wyatt and the Reverend
James Wyatt, was born on November 26, 1914, in
Calvert, Texas.
She completed her high school education at
Booker T. Washington High School in Dallas,
Texas, and attended Wiley College in Marshall,
Texas.
On December 24, 1937, she married the Reverend
Jacob Hudson Carruthers, Sr. They are the
parents of James, Jacob, Jr., Carol, Riley and
Andrew. Two children preceded her in death. Sue
devoted her life to homemaking and working with
the church.
She was a member of Lydia Chapter No. 7 O.E.S.
Over the years, she served faithfully in church
choirs.
Last December, she and the Reverend Carruthers
celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary with a
large family and community celebration which
included a renewal of their vows.
Mrs. Carruthers is survived by her husband, five
children, eighteen grandchildren, nine great
grandchildren and many other relatives and
friends.
