Mr. Odie E. Davis Jr. was the third of three children born to
Mr. Odie Earnest Sr. and Marie J0 Spiller Davis.
He was educated in the Public Schools of Houston, Jack Yates
High School, Tuskegee Institute, Tuskegee Alabama, Texas Southern
Univeristy, Houston, Texas, Prairie View A&M College and George
William College, Virginia. He joined the Church early as a small
boy, Bethlehem, Hempstead; Trinity East, Houston. Later upon
coming to San Antonio in 1942 where he joined St. Paul United
Methodist Church, where he remained until he slept away
He served for a number of years as Conference Lay Leader
of the United Methodist Church. At present, he was a member of
the United Methodist Men and served as a delegate for the
Jurisdictional Conference.
He was the Executive Director of the Alamo Branch Y.M.CJL
for 26 years. Under his administration, Camp Alamo came into
existence. He was very instrumental in the community helping the
youth. He obtained scholarships for youth through different college
and organized the East Side Baseball League at Pittman Sullivan
Park.
In Civic affairs he served the community as a Representative
for the Alamo Chamber of Commerce to the Mayor's Economic
Development Committee, Representative for Brackenridge High
School in the Area in Liaison Committee, serving as vice-chairman
member of the Alamo Area Council of the City of San Antonio
Recreation Advisory Committee. He also was an employee at
Sutton and Sutton Funeral Home.
He leaves a wife, Mrs. Nadine J. Davis, a daughter, Mrs.
Norma Marie Davis Boney, two sons, Odie E.Davis ni and Nathaniel
William Davis, one sister, Miss Mildred B. Davis, Dallas; four
aunts, two uncles, mother-in-law, Mrs. Norma Jefferson, two sisters-
in-law, Miss Evelyn Jefferson and Mrs. Dorothy Luckett andhusband,
Mr. Willie Luckett, one niece, Miss Roslyn Luckett, Nephew,
Mr. Wayne Luckett and a host of other relatives and friends.
