ball teams were in action on
Friday night.
But only one of them —
Sweetwater's girls — won
as they defeated Ballinger
50-39 at Mustang Gym. The
Lady Mustangs improved to
11-8 with the victory, their
fifth straight this season.
A big second-half rally
keyed the latest win as
Sweetwater rallied from a
21-19 halftime deficit. Taylor
McKoy had 14 points, Alicia
Finn 10, Kendra Crosson
eight, Candice Hernandez
and Suede Shirley six and
Kinsey Browning and Aubra
Hendrix three apiece for the
Lady Mustangs.
The Sweetwater boys
(5-7) lost on the road, fall-
ing 57-50 to a good Bangs
squad. The Mustangs trailed
31-17 at halftime before out-
scoring the Dragons 33-26
in the second half, but they
still came up short. Taylor
Jones had 16 points to pace
Sweetwater. B.J. Walker
had 10, Dylon Adames nine,
Gabriel Medellin eight, Pax-
ton Kelley five and Tino
Martinez two. Sweetwater
will travel to Andrews on
Monday before taking a
break for the holidays.
JV boys hit nine 3s,
nip Bangs 53 52 in
double-O' shootout
The Sweetwater JV boys
outlasted Bangs, 53-52, in a
wild double-overtime game
on Friday in Bangs to im-
prove their record to 8-5
this season.
Cole Maxwell and Kyle
McSherry hit four 3-point-
ers and Willie Norman one
for the Mustangs, who were
tied with Bangs 41-41 at the
end of regulation and 47-47
after the first OT before
finally coming out on top. It
was also tied, 22-22, at the
end of three quarters.
Maxwell paced Sweetwa-
ter with 19 points while
McSherry had 13, Ryan
Linebaugh nine, Norman
seven and Nick Nemir five.
Sweetwater's freshman
boys (11-2) won, 44-35, as
Kaleb Hoover led the way
with 18 points and Quentin
Wetsel added 14. Dylan
Bennett had six, Deandre
Gatson four and Marquees
Jenkins two for Sweetwater,
which rallied from a 17-16
deficit at halftime.
Roscoe hoop
squads lose
In recent sub-varsity
action, Roscoe basketball
teams lost four games.
This past Tuesday, the
Roscoe JV girls lost their
game to Albany 29-26
while the JV boys fell
58-14. Eva Aguayo had
14 points and Justina
Brasuell six to pace the
Roscoe girls in their con-
test while for the Roscoe
boys, Brant Burnett and
Jesus Leanos each had
six points to share team
honors. In junior high
action Monday, Roscoe's
Purple boys lost 48-34 to
Stamford's eighth grad-
ers with Chase Cathey
and Cutter Davila scoring
eight and Kevin Lavalas
and Nikolas Schriber six,
and Roscoe's White boys
lost to Stamford 63-4.

College bowl schedule
Meanwhile, the Highland
and Blackwell girls both
played district games on
Friday. Blackwell (1-1) fell
to Bronte, 65-30, in District
12-A while Highland (1-1)
lost to state-ranked Roby
40-29 in District 11-A.
Sierra Allen, Kara Hugh-
ey and Callie Sandusky had
eight points for Highland
while Shyan Womack added
five points against the No. 6
Lady Lions, who were ahead
17-9 at halftime. Jennifer
Allen had 12 points, Kaitlyn
Gaston eight, Amanda Bul-
lard six and Leonor Castelo
four for Blackwell, which
entered the game with a
three-game winning streak.
The Roscoe girls and
Blackwell and Highland
boys lost non-district games
Friday. Roscoe fell to Cross
Plains 38-29, while High-
land lost to Water Valley
88-28 and Blackwell was
defeated by Ira 74-37.
Kim Norris had 13 points
and Lindsey Williams seven
for Roscoe; Josh Andrews
and Landon Rowlett had 10
points each to pace High-
land; and Caleb Jeter and
Jayden Jones each had 10
points for Blackwell, which
hosts Robert Lee on Mon-
day in its district opener.
