provide them with material and
thread, buttons, elastic, but some-
times they have donated materials
they share with us. Our senior
citizens here were even rewarded
with Certificates of Merit from the

hein. Pa., 1X01X, is an excellent
place to order thread, la|>o. elastic,
etc. So is Newark Dressmaker

catalogs and tell them what you

1 would certainly appreciate II if
you would advise me if you do

doing I hope you won't wait un-
til fall as the servicemen have no

growing pains. We feel in thus way
we can include excerpts from let-
ters of the servicemen, and can
give little hints from different
groups — in this way we can all

One group I know makes pillows
from odds and ends from a mat-
tress factory, and sells them for
postage money. Another makes
paper flowers, and one lady with
eight children has taught half the
teenagers in her community this
art. Some have silver teas or din
ners, and we have a semi annual
sale of clothing, white elephants,
gifts and baked goods — we rotate
lrom church to church.
We also send goodies lo ihe men
themselves, — cookies, candy, pn
sweetened Koolaid, canned nuis
instant cocoa mix and Prearn, etc

community. At each meeting, a
member brings used clothing, soap,
goodies, used towels, loys, etc. One

On Landscaping
At Garden Club
Herley C. Thompson, Associate
County Agent of Travis County.
Horticultural, gave a very interes-
ting and informative program on
landscaping. He also gave sugges-
tions on landscaping the new Ikis-
pltal which is one of the projects
of (he Lost Pines Garden C'lub,
These basic ideas can be formulated
in the plans for the future. A ques-
tion and answer session gave mem-
bers the opportunity to get answers
to all of their gat den and lawn
problems.
A social hour was enjoyed aftei
the meeting on Monday, October
7, by the group and cookies, nuts
and soft drinks were served by
the hostesses Mrs Conner Wilkins,
Mrs. James Kershaw and Mrs.
Joe Pfeiffer.

year-old Tommy.
There are so many leftovers in
America, never lie concerned with

all the things that are necessary.
We found that our two motels and
one hotel were delighted to give
us their slightly used soap. Our
stationery store just cleaned liousi
—iuid when we were going through
the boxes they sent over, on il
said: "I surely don't want any
credit for this, it is too much fun.

our colleges has given us the pas
tic containers in which they gel
cottagc cheese and sour cicam and
we pack cookies, bars and other
goodies in them. Children can
sharpen up old crayons and bay a
new coloring book Make scrap
books out of old sheets — sew the
sides up on your sewing machine,
send maga/ine pictures and a 111
tie jar of paste. There are 17,0(10
refugee's in the Khc San area
alone— tills will give them some
tiling to do.
Postage seems to be the largest
problem, but when people ask me
"How are you going to raise the
postage?'' I remind them that the
