Bastrop (Texas) Advertiser. May I, 1975
BLUEBONNET AREA
BY JO M IL t F P
On Saturday April 19. at 3:20
p.m.. we received a call
reporting a fire in a hay barn on
the T. J. Caldwell place located
on Highway 71. five miles, from
HBA The report received said
it was located in BBA, but when
our truck arrived at the
Caldwell place here, there
wasn't any fire. A call back to
the dispatcher resulted in
receiving the correct location.
Responding to this call were
I'aul Ferguson, Ed Richardson
and l«eon Miller.
On Sunday April 20. at 9 p.m.
Mr. E. Gaines called us
reporting a fire and wanted to
know if we had received a call
reporting it, and since we had
not. our Fire Chief Leon Miller
picked up our assistant Fire
Chief John Hoffman and went
to check it out. They found the
brush had been burning on the
other side of Shiloh, which had
been burning for quite some
time but everything seemed to
be under control. We found out
later that John Hoffman had
been called earlier in the
evening reporting it and to
stand by but later in the
evening it was cancelled. The
residents in the area were a bit
uneasy and we sympathize with
them; it's always good to be
safe than sorry, and a very
good feeling to know that we
have a Volunteer Fire Depart
ment in our area and also the
B.C.F.F.A.
Saturday, May 3. 8:00 p.m.,
there will be a Rodeo at the
Thorne Arena on Highway 71.
This is the first rodeo for this
season, so come on out and
watch the cowboys compete in
this sport, and have a good
time.
us this past week. Stephan has
been here the entire week
while Robby joined his brother
here on noon Thursday. Bob
and Susan came out Saturday
evening and after dinner, took
their boys home The house
sure feels empty and awfully
quiet now.
Mrs. Ann Cox, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. H. G. Watson, and
her children, David, Kathy and
Gary, from Clear Lake,
Houston, spent a three day
weekend here in BBA visiting
her parents.
Laura McGows,u celebrated
her fifth birthday on the
thirteenth of April with a party
to which all of her little friends
in BBA were invited.
There will be a meeting of
the Property Owners Associa
tion, Sunday May 4, at 2:00
p.m. at the Park. All property
owners and residents are asked
to please attend this meeting
and get to know your
neighbors, also the restrictions
for our subdivisions.
The way the wind has been
blowing this week, one would
think it was March and not
April; and where are our April
Showers! We certainly can use
some rain.
The Lake Bastrop Volunteer
Fire Department is sponsoring
a German Fest; this is their
first, and we hope it's a big
success. We here in BBA know
only too well the cost of parts
and the waiting period to
receive them. So come on out
on May 18 and join the fun and
festivities, while helping out
our neighboring Volunteer Fire
Department.
Three young ladies of our
area are to be congratulated;
they are Patricia Wood, Linda
Houseton and Vickie Willis. An
were inducted int the Beta Club
at Bastrop High School Friday
night, April 18. After the
services, refreshments were
served and dancing followed,
which made the evening most
enjoyable.
Mr. and Mrs. James Thorne
are at home after spending
three days in L'ibbock visiting
their daughter and son-in-law,
Mr. and Mrs. Denver Samples.
Mr. and Mrs. Ray Watkins
are here vacationing this week
from Enid, Oklahoma, visiting
Mr. and Mrs. Corky Willis and
family, and friends in San
Antonio. Mrs. Watkins is Mrs.
Willis' mother.
It came to my knowledge
that Shetia Graham had had
minor surgery at Bergstrom
Hospital a week ago. We are
glad to know that she is getting
along fine and was back in
school in a short time.
Our grandsons. Robby and
Stephan Crone, of Austin have
been spending some time with
There will be an important
meeting of the Volunteer Fire
Department on Monday May 5,
at 7:30 p.m. at the Miller Fire
Barn.
Worth repeating; "A ship in
harbor is safe, but that is not
what ships are built for."
Car Talk For
Women Drivers
When your car talks to you,
do you know what it is saying?
For today's women, knowing
how to operate an automobile is
not enough! A woman must
know more about the way an
automobile works and how to
maintain her car for safety and
economy.
"Car Talk for Women", a
workshop sponsored by Mrs.
Clara Curtis, County Extension
Agent and the Texas Agricul
tural Extension Service, will
not make you a "lady mechanic"
but it will offer you some basic
information about the function-
ing of your car and give you
some practical tips for main-
taining and checking out your
car on your own.
Subjects to be covered in the
workshop include "How to
Read the Instructment Panel",
"Parts Identification", "Practi-
cal Preventive Maintenance",
"Hints on Saving Money", and
"Traveling Hints." Henry
O'Neal, Agricultural Engineer
with the Texas Agricultural
Extension Service, will present
the program,
The workshop will be held on
Tuesday and Wednesday, May
7 and 8, at Bastrop county
Courthouse, 7:30 p.m. Each day
will be different.
For more information, con-
tact Mrs. Clara Curtis, County
Extension Agent at 321-2184.

UNITED PENTECOSTAL
CHURCH ACTIVITIES
Living for God is exciting and
wonderful.
In this life even a minister is
replaceable, but in the King
dorri of God there is nothing big
or small as long as we perform
the job or function as the Lord
intended us to do. Service to
God is what is so important.
Then on .Sunday night, his
text was taken from E/.ekial 1:4
entitled "The Soul That Sineth
Shall Die." Some don't care if
they make mistakes, but.
Exekial was talking to a
backslidden nation when he
said, the soul that sineth shall
die.
The first death is not a place
of slttep or hiding. Somewhere
your sou! is waiting to be
judged, every man according to
his earthly deeds.
Flames eternal is the second
death. There will be a time for
judgment and the soul of man
shall die.
On Judgment day the
compassionate Jesus will 1h* ' h«
Judge The day of Judgment
will be too late for resentence.
The soul that sins shall die.
Everyone will stand to be
judged. Self has to die to
produce fruit.
i
We wish to thank those
responsible for the lovely
dinner and fellowship our
church enjoyed recently.
Also, we would like to
express our appreciation to the
Methodist Nursing Home for
inviting us once a month to
Loekhart for a service. We
always enjoy it so very much.
The Church has been invited
to a Skating Party coming up in
May. We want to thank the
Westgate Apostolic Church.
Sunday morning, Rev. Gowin
preached from John 12:24 25,
which says "Verily, Verily, I
say unto you, except a coin of
wh«at tali into the ground and
die, it abideth alone, but if it
die, it bringeth forth much
fruit He that loveth his life
shall lose it; and he that hateth
his life in this world shall keep
it unto life eternal."
Peope worry about what is
happening to America People
no longer feel the same as the
first founders did, because the
founders were looking for
freedom of worship and todays
people have turned their back
on God. They would rather
please themselves through
entertainment and a gixxi time.
