February 2, Honorable Clifton Carter Democratic National Headquarters Washington, D. C. Dear Mr. Carter: I thought you might be interested to know that X have sent you a copy of toe attached letters to all of the Texas Congressional Delegation. Mr. Richard White of El Paso and Mr. Bob Casey of Houston, Texas are especially pushing it. Mr. Carter, you know what LUuAC means to me; I nave spent my life working for LUJLAC. All that 1 am, £ owe to the good friends 1 nave made in 32 years I have been a part of the organization. If the President agrees to sign this proclamation for National i-uiac Week, I am sure that everyone of the Fast National Presidents (22) still living from coast to coast would want to be in Washington for the signing. It would be the greatest morale booster for the Latinos since President Johnson started the Anti-Poverty Program. Please give me a call and let me know if this Bill has a chance, as I have a friend wno might charter a plane for all the Past National Presidents of LUiuAC to go to Washington with me for this historic occasion. I continually read of what you are doing in Washington for our country and the Democratic Party and it makes me very happy to know and remem- ber of our friendship here in Houston before you were called to help Presi- dent Johnson make history for the people of the world. Best wishes from your friend. Respectfully yours, John J. Herrera National Executive Secretary and Past National President of UjjLAC JJH/ga
