of Flo's Bail Bonds, flowed
all day from several stages
gospel, bluegrass, mariachis,
German polka, country/west-
ern, blues, funk and rock.
Austin Music Award winners
Mingo Fishtrap closed out the
evening with a powerful per-
formance.
"The weather was beauti-
ful, the street vendors all said
they did extremely well and
the local merchants said there
were a lot of visitors in their
shops," said Debbie Denny,
Yesterfest chairperson.
Opera House Director
Chester Eitze said the venue
attendance start to pick up by
noon and with strong turn-
outs for "Radio Play," the
Clickety Cloggers, the youth
dance group Estrellitas and for
the Scottish Country Dancers.
The paid show, "Vaudeville
Tonight," also enjoyed strong
attendance.
The ice cream parlor
inside the Opera House was
a hit with youth as well as the
free watermelon served out-
side on Spring Street. Some
youth gathered around Paul
Tuttrup as started up a 1917
International truck using the
vehicle's front-end manual
crank.
Eitze said moving Yesterfest
from Fisherman's Park — this
was the second year it was
held exclusively downtown —
was a good idea because of the
need to increase downtown
business traffic. Eitze said the
historical downtown buildings
served as a nice backdrop for
the "roving gunslingers."
Eitze, also a member of the
Downtown Business Alliance,
said once attendance is well
established for Yesterfest's
downtown location — and
this year's turnout continued
the "ball rolling pretty good"
— portions of the festival,
such as livestock activities,
could be held at Fisherman's
Park, establishing a good flow
of foot traffic between the two
areas.

Camp Swift Continued! from Page 1A
'cold war' heavy armor divi-
sions and become more ori-
ented toward light infan-
try," Hamilton said, a focus
being carried on by Lt. Gen.
Charles Rodrigues, the current
Adjutant General of Texas.
Camp Swift's work involves
renovation to two larger build-
ings and some smaller admin-
istration buildings and bar-
racks.
There will be more fulltime
staff at Camp Swift, going from
seven to 10 personnel to about
25-30, Col. Hamilton said.
"We'll be building out more
modem classrooms (with floor
and lighting upgrading)."
The expanded classrooms
will be able to handle about
1,500 to 1,700 students a year
versus about 400-600 previ-
ously.
Since the largest weapon,
which can fired at Camp Swift
is a .50 caliber machine gun,
the outdoor training won't
involve the heavy weapons
training conducted at regular
Army bases such as Ft. Hood.
However, the pistol and rifle
ranges remain at Camp Swift.
There will also be occasional
^airborne drops" involving
paratroopers, practice for heli-
copter-borne infantry assaults,
combat engineering training
and some medic and EMT
training.
Col. Hamilton said a propos-
al for a $36 million "regional
training institute," which will
further increase Camp Swift's
training capability, is also
under consideration.
