VI. DISTRICT ATTORNEY
The office of district attorney has been provided for by each of the
constitutions of the State. Until the adoption of the present Constitution
in 1876, it was required that the office be filled in each district
but since its adoption, the legislature from time to tire has designated
the judicial districts in which district attorneys must be elected.2 The
election of a district attorney in the 22d district has been required
since Caldwell County was placed i in it in 184.
The district attorney serving in Caldwell County is elected at each
biennial general election by the voters of the 22d judicial district
which is composed of Caldwell C, Com., Fayette, Hays, and Austin Counties.
He represents the State in all criminal cases instituted in the district
court0 and performs many other important duties.7
